Title: Whats a padded loop
Post by: DWT on April 04, 2009, 02:19:00 PM
Dont mean to sound ignorant but, whats a padded loop? I have been at this for along time and even make my own flemish strings but I got no idea what a padded loop string is.

As I understand it it is adding additional strands in the loop area of the string. I have heard of adding strands of B-50 dacron to fastflight to protect limbtip/nocks

It is basically just adding a few strands in the loop ends before you start to twist it up.I think it helps to make a quieter string by making the loop ends a larger diameter by filling the string groove better.I just run string around by bow square about 12" long.Like when I making a 12 strand D97 I'll add 2-3 extra strands in the loop ends, making it 16-18 strands in the loops and 12 strands in the middle.I'll pad with the same string or dacron. When I make a 6 strand 450+ I'll add an extra 4 strands per bundle of B50.I have always padded loops on FF and other low stretch strings.

Waxed dental floss, makes great padding for FF loops.
