Is there any difference in which feathers you
use. Does it effect the arrow flight.
I am referring to the "round" back, or the "Shield" Back.

They both stabilize the arrow about the same, but the roundbacks(parabolics) are a bit less noisy in flight.
Both do the job just fine. the shield cut add a little more of a traditional look but they cost a few cents more.I would stay with a 5 inch feather for stable flight.
the pretty ones!
Thanks fella's
I've been using 5" parabolic for a long time now but in the 60s I used shield cut. I can't tell a difference between the two from the shooters side of the bow. Someone on one of the forums did a sound test between the two but I forgot the results. I also had my wife stand behind the screen door and I shot a bunch of arrows with parabolics past the door about 2' from her and she said she couldn't hear anything but the arrows hitting the target, not even the bow.
With 75-80 parabolics left I'll just use them up and then switch to shield for variety.
Someday I hope I am a good enough shot to tell the difference between the two. I have some of each and really can't tell any difference even in regards to sound. I do feel like the shield cut is more "traditional" looking and is the type I prefer. When I fletch up my own I use shield cut.
