Title: "Great Stuff"....
Post by: Cottonmouth on April 03, 2009, 11:39:00 AM
Was in the hardware store the other day, saw a can of this "Great Stuff", spray insulation foam.  Just wondered if anyone had filled their arrows with it to make them weigh more, increase spine, etc?  Love to hear about it if you've tried it...

I did try it, not much weight. A better choice is nylon rope. Comes in a many diameters and will really add the weight.

Haven't used it in arrows, but your post made me think about trying it to make a broadhead target. Anybody ever try it?

Ive used it on 3D targets, and a Morrel 6 shooter target. Ive made turkey targets using my old beat up decoys filled with it also. It works fantastic.
Another great use for it is filling your quiver hood.

I've used it several times to fill large holes and entire inserts on 3 ds . although it lasts only half as long as a new insert it's about one fifth of the cost. one tip don't overfill it expands. Great stuff is good stuff.

I redo my 3-d targets with it about every 3 months or so.  Lot cheaper than the inserts.  I usually wrap the kill area in saren wrap and then punch the straw of the great stuff through the wrap.  Seems to fill up the area better.  After it drys, trim it up  and paint it to match.

Ybuck I am going to do that with a decoy, You guys are so awesome.  I have heard of doing that to old 3D targets but the decoy idea is awesome.  I always thought caulking would weigh a ton and be easy to stuff in an arrow and is flexible.  I tried Terry's Aquarium tubing idea and it will add all the weight you want.  I was prepared to tie the end and stuff sqeezed down splitshots for weight forward in the front of the tube and then tie  it off so it can't move on you.  good luck

I tried it once as an experiment, and found that you have to be sure to get the shaft full with no voids, otherwise your weight can vary widely. Really quiets those beercans.
