Title: Spining River Cane?
Post by: Ike 403 on April 02, 2009, 10:41:00 PM
OK, arrow gurus...how do I measure the spine of river cane shafts? Is it the same process as regular wood shafting (arrow supported 26" apart, weight the middle and measure) or is it a different bag of tricks? Thanks for all your help!

Yes, you measure them the same. Depending on the amount of taper the cane has, you can reduce the effective spine weight by up to 10# for that taper.

Thanks, Pat B...I'm cutting longer cane and using the center section so I can get a more consistent size throughout.

You can leave them long also if you need to reduce the effective spine. For each inch over 28" subtract 5# of spine weight.

I cut all my shoot shafts long.  That way I can get a good match set by moving center of the shaft left or right on the spine meter until I find the spot where they all spine the same.  Then I cut both ends for the length arrow I need.
