How many of you would rather hunt from the ground than a tree stand? What is your favorite blind/stand?
I've never hunted from a high vantage point. I've always hunted from the ground, and I've only been in a blind once.
I just can't stand sitting still for too long! Apart from that, I think our trees just aren't conducive to tree stands, either they're too bent or too brushy or too big around!
I am a little partial to tree stands myself. When season begins I am too restless to sit still when on the ground. In a tree stand I can stay a long time. If a pattern presents itself I am all about a quick ground blind.
i used to frame houses for a livin and spent alot of time climbing on rooftops so i kind of prefer to be on the ground now. but if someone where to invent an affordable version of the johnny quest jet pack i'd be all for it :biglaugh:
I have switched to ground hunting after getting rid of my wheelie 3 yrs ago.
If I REALLY want to get a deer, I go for the trees.
If I want to get out and enjoy some time in the woods, I hunt from the ground. Much more exciting when an opportunity materializes too!

Hunting from the ground is what I need.

These are all great posts! I just wanted to see what you guys preferred. I love the variety! Keep it coming.
I have a 2 person ladder stand and I cannot stand to sit for hardly an hour in it. I see more game on the ground still hunting. I have never harvested any game from a tree stand probably because I don't stay there long enough. I did sit in my stand this year for 3 hours one evening however my wife was in it with me reading a book! :D
When the season first starts, I really enjoy being perched above the forest floor in my super comfortable Summit climber. I sit back and ENJOY
everything around me.
Once I`ve gotten myself "slowed down" I begin to spend more time on the ground. Weather conditions
sometimes play a role in my decision of ground or air attack.
I rarely leave my house without my treestand on my back, but I often stash it in the ferns, and go HUNT.
I always hunt from a tree for deer. I make too much of a racket on the ground.
I hunt on the ground.
I like being in a stand because you see a lot of deer you never would have seen on the ground because of vegitation. You can use your binoculars to scout while you are hunting in a more open area where the fields are not just flat and you can see deer moving in the dips and such. I think you almost always have a better chance of not being seen in a tree. Having said all that some of the most exciting hunts have been on the ground it is pretty awesome. I guess I am going to just make some blinds to hunt turkeys out of since I can't fit my longbow in my ameristep blind. I don't like pop ups for deer unless you brush them in, are on a field edge or you leave them up a while. I had a climbing treestand by Summit that was so confortable to sit in I really enjoyed my time in the woods but I sold it for a light weight hang on and lone wolf sticks so I could be EXACTLY where I needed to be to kill animals. I enjoy my time more when I bring animals home. I know a lot of people think that is not the point but you should see me smile. Now if I can just get it done with my longbow.
I have always hunted on the ground. Its tjhe most fun and extremely exciting.
I stand hunted for 30 plus years if you count rifles. But about 5 years ago I became a total selfbow-ground hunter. Now I don't have to worry about puting up and down a dozzen or so stands each year.Giving away my hunting sites To other hunters.Places where I have company. No one hunts my stand sites now.(I only used hangons).I had that problem, hunters hunting my stands when ever they did'nt see my truck or seen it parked somewhere else.I no longer have that problem.
99% of the time I'm on the ground, I like to be on their level, play by their rules. One heck of a rush when an opportunity presents itself. The way I look at it is if there's nothing happening, I go out and make it happen.
Ground for me. Check out this poll. Everybody kept saying that they had a better chance for a deer from a tree so I did a poll.

I enjoy hunting from a tree stand more so then the ground. I like the ability to see everything all around me.
I have recently tried hunting from the ground as well and see benefits to that as well.

 Wow I didnt know it was that many that were successful from the ground
Hunting from the ground is a thrill, and is a really effective way to hunt deer. I enjoy both types. My motto even when I am hunting a tree stand is that the hunt starts the moment I shut the truck door. I hunt all the way to the stand. Either way I'm having fun.
Zach, have you decided to go Turkey hunting?
I like both. I can sit in a Tree Lounge for hours.
I do both...but if I was ment to spend time in trees my feet would be shaped more like a birds and their not!lol!!! I like good old terra firma and I can be alot more mobile. Tree and ladder stands do work very well. I went on a bear hunt last fall and spent 5-6 hours in a tree stand each afternoon for a week...that was hard for me to do!!!
It completely depends on what I'm hunting. Whitetails aren't the only animal out there.
ground, no commercial blinds just stack up brush and logs. Kill deer like this every year
