Hey guys-
Got the ok from the financial advisor (my lovely wife :D ) to go BISON HUNTING :D ! :scared:
Any and all help ya'll can give it greatly appreciated.
I'm lookin at about November/December/January time frame.
Thanks all! :notworthy:
bump. I know someone out there has hunted bison before... :D
All I can really think of is Turners or Brokaw's heards up here in MT...????
Get a hold of Doug Campbell, He manages the Brokaw herd and probably could fix you up.
They are not cheap too get though.
Mike
You can get a bison in North Dakota for about $800, they dont have the market value they used to, matter of fact at one time a couple of years ago they were selling young cows for $15. Some of the pastures arent too big, I think unless you get one of the free roaming tags it s all just a canned hunt, not very sporting....Tim

Why you would like to kill a big bull?
Take the meat hunt and do it 3 times, lol
I'll PM you a list of places I have from my "Dream Hunts" folder. They're all ranch style places.
Course it will cost you a bison steak :goldtooth:
The Browkaws don't have buffs anymore Mike. Too many regs poured on em.
I dont think that since they 1st set foot on this earth a bison has ever been too tough to hunt, tough to kill but not overly wary.I was in on a killing of a 1000lb bull on a heavily wooded ranch and although we knew the final outcome before we got there it was still somewhat entertaining.I didnt feel any dirtier than when I have shot those lovely transplanted pheasants both feral and released.Definately not a true hunt but it is what it is.The meat as you already know is incredible.Shoot a little further back than you would a deer and "Use Enough Arrow!"Lastly dont forget to cut out that toungue, yumm!
Sent you a P.M.
After reading the antelope thread and getting all dreamy I see Table Mountain Outfitters offers bison meat hunts too.
I'm in agreement with you Dave!
Thanks for the PM's guys! I appreciate the responses guys. I'll let you know what I find
True wild hunts for free ranging Bison can be had in Utah (two wild herds - plains Bison) Alaska - wood bison
British Columbia - wood bison, Yukon - wood bison
Alberta - wood bison. Wyoming does offer Yellowstone overflow hunts but I'm told this is not an archery hunt and not much of a wild hunt. South Dakota offers hunts in Custer State Nat Park. Even though these are a re-established herd they are indeed classified as a free ranging herd of Plains Bison. The Custer hunts can be had at reasonable prices and cheaper non trophy hunts are available there. I have seen several videos of the Custer hunts and in my opinion these are not Bison that act like true wild Bison, a walk in the park at best. The Wood Bison of Alaska, Yukon, B.C. and Alberta offer a true wild hunt. I have a number of friends that hunted them in Yukon - rifle only no bow allowed. These guys say it is an extremely hard hunt with a rifle. The Utah hunt in Henery mountains is known to be an extremely hard hunt as well. The second Utah hunt is on an Island and is not as tough a hunt.
Wyoming just made it leagal to take bison with a bow. However most of the overflow hunts take place in the Teton area and that has not been opened to archery.
Hawes ranch outfitters ford kansas,just below dodge.Give Lee a shout.I did a blackpowder hunt awhile back,cowboy cloths,slept in a teepee.John miller,wisecarver group, sent ya!
I have hunted free ranging bison in B.C. at pink Mountain, the hunt was $7500 and the animals as cagey as whitetails, never got a shot. Truly a wonderful hunt anyhow and I am going back this year. Nothing canned about the free ranging bison so if you are looking for a challenge, go north of the border
Anyone know how much meat an average cow or 2-3 yr old bull would yield?
Utah hunt is tough!!!!
Tough to draw and tough to hunt.
Brad Haynes former owner of eclipse broadheads got a tag and was able to fill it with some REALLY HARD WORK.
Others have hunted the entire season and only seen buffalo from a distance.
This last year Utah messed up and had some rife hunts running at the same time in the area.
NOT GOOD!!!
Best of luck.
