It's the hiss of Death, don't worry about it. BUT make absolutely sure that they spin true on your arrows. My WWs and Snuffers fly quietly.

Like C2 says, it's widely known as "The Hiss of Death" Some snuffers and WW just do it regardless of what you do. Yes, Make darn sure that they spin PERFECTLY true on your shafts. Then, just shoot.

Mine also hiss, I have them on 100 gr steel adapters.  I sharpened the back of all three thinking that might help, It did not not.

Thanks guys, I think I'll stick with the Magnus 2 blades for Africa then. I'll try aligning the head with the flech....

I believe if you round the edges of the vents in the broadhead it will make them more aerodynamic (improve air flow)and that should help quiet them down.

Yep, they probably arent mounted perfectly strait which will cause the whistle as air rushes over the inside edge of the blade cut-out at the rear. Everyone should make themselves a spin tester apparatus.  Very cheap and easy as far as do-it-yourself projects go. Pm me if you want advice...(it's so easy and cheap to do).

Forgot to add they could whistle even though you have done everything right.  In that case using a small chainsaw file or fine sandpaper rolled around a toothpick for example you can knock that 90 degree corner (6 actually) off really fast.

As Randy just said, any hiss is usually caused by air hitting the back edge of the vents. If they are on true, air should not cause a hiss. Put a little vaeline on the back edge of the vents of those that hiss and see if there is a difference. One other reason is if your arrows are not spined quite right and air hits the vents due to less than perfect arrow flight.

how about the ones with the screw-in inserts that are factory installed,, mine wobble a little on the spin test and I'm curious if others do to?  think they would fly okay from 50#

gene what set up do you use in africa ? the guy`s me & jason hunt with ( other members of the bba ) all shoot shoping trolly`s & are trying to talk us down in arrow weight saying heavy arrows from our bows wont be fast enough for impala & other similar size animals ( in 06 i had an ampala jump my 55# widow @ 15 yds from a treestand !!!) although i took a beautiful 50" kudu bull the day before we came home ,any advise would be great thanks

My setup is spined, paper tuned, fletch aligned, shooting bullet holes and my Woodsmans still hiss.  I think I will try Gene's suggestion after that I will be at a loss.  Is it really that big of a deal say 20 yards or less?

I have Snuffers, 150 grain screw in Woodsman, and 125 gr. Woodsman glued on inserts and I can't make any of them hiss. I've had feathers hiss, even with field points, but none of the above broadheads hiss. Did I just get really lucky or what?

Yeah you got lucky, my dad and I have changed to field point and the arrows are silent.  The second you put Snuffers or Woodsmans on they start to hiss big time.

I shoot 150 grain Woodsman's and they don't hiss. I'm shooting aluminum arrows with three, 5" right wing parabolic feathers with about 11 degrees of helical twist. My bow is 42#.

How could the blade's being aligned with the feathers possibly make a difference in noise if they are in front of the feathers?

The bh is still in front moving the same air as they would be the other way...no?
