Is there any public land in Texas for hogs, small game, and whatnot? I'm used to Colorado with millions of acres of nat'l forest. I have family down there, but most of them are fisherman - not backpackers and hunters.
Thanks,
Mark
Mark,
If you can't find public land, I would talk to the Texa Parks and Wildlife for info on problem pigs.
From what I understand, they are everywhere.
Some of the hog dog websites are usefull and guys are pretty open to allowing hunts for hogs.
I plan to do the Texas Sweat with Curtis on the first weekend of May.

One thing I've noticed in TX is there is alot of land, and it's cheap.
I searched the other day and public was a bit on the downside compared to folks that will ask for 35 bucks a day Hogs are plentiful and cheap here. What I did was pick an area, then do a search in that area. You'll be suprised after you search around.
You can have a weekend with $100 easy (for the hunt).
Gas is another story.
Mark...check out this website:

Texas has approximately 1+ million acres of public access land. George posted the right link for 75%+ of it. Try the Corp of Engineers for more.
Most of it is hunted hard and the animals are smart and mostly nocturnal you will have to do your homework to be successful.
There are tons of day leases for hogs from $100-$200 for two days of hunting.
PM me for a link to a good website that will be helpful in your search on where to hunt in Texas.
