Title: cx heritage 150 vs gold tip 55-75
Post by: fryar34 on March 27, 2009, 06:19:00 PM
I just ordered a dark archer 54@27 and the guy said these or the gold tip 55-75 would be my best bet? Anyone have expierence with the cx heritage, can you compare them to the gold tips??Which one would be better for my set up?

I haven't tried cx but I shoot gt 55/75 now with a 50 at 28 bob lee td recurve.  I used to shoot 29 inch 35/55 with 250 upfront but I have got 30 inch 55/75 with 300 upfront to spine out the same.  The 55/77 weigh more (around 600) and can't be broken.  I thought the 35'55 were tough but I would get an occasional split shaft when I hit a brick or metal target stand.  That can be expected.  Now the 55/75's  don't care what I shoot them at.  I have heard the cx may be more consistent and such but I'll never change.  Bhill

I've never had good luck with GT shafts.  Like Brent said, they occasionally split and do have consistency issues.  I've shot CX shafts for along time.  The only time I've ever broken them (and just the inserted end) is by shooting rocks and jamming the insert back up inside them.  They never have cracked no matter how hard I've smacked or glanced off something.  For your set up I would shoot a CX 250 with 50 or 100 brass inserts with a 150 grain point.  Most on here will advise a CX 150 which will work also. dino

CE Heritage shafts are a better made shaft and more durable. I started out with GTs and switched to CEs and am very happy with them.

That CX heritage is hard to beat. I love mine they are almost indestructable.

I agree with the above in reference to durability and consistancy of the CX Heritage shafts, the only one I've managed to damage was jamming the 100 gn insert into the shaft on a hard rock rabbit.

Well unless ya want to shoot a lot of weight up front the 55/75 is out, I would alos rule it out as they are not very durable. The Heritage 150s would be the ticket. I have shot Lee bows very close to your set-up and can say a 28.5" 150 with 100 grain brass insert and 125 grain point will be about perfect off your new bow!! Shawn

I've had both and the CX are way tougher. They're pretty heavy too.  Can't go wrong there.

I would say the 5575's would be too stiff for your setup. I just bought and fletched up some 3 rivers Traditional only 500's and they are the best carbons I've ever owned. I used to shoot Gold Tip 3555's.

I shoot the GT Traditional 55/75 from my Border. 57#@29. I use the 100gr inserts and 125gr points. They weigh in at 530gr and fly beautifully.
If you shoot one into a rock it will bow up right behind the insert.

If I remember correctly the CE Heritage shafts are built much the same as the old Terminator shafts. They have a fair amount of fiberglass in them. I always found the Terminators to be VERY tough shafts.

I am another firm believer in the CE Heritage shafts. I shoot 250's with 350-400 gr up front out of my 62-64# bows cut to 30", I draw 29". I also shoot AD trad woodgrains and like them just as well.

Sound like need to give them a try.

You know how guys jump the gun and buy shafts and then try them and they don't work for them or they have trouble figuring out how to tune them.....? Check the classifieds here. There seems to be some being sold through there often!
