Title: Hill Redman
Post by: swampthing on March 25, 2009, 06:47:00 AM
Anybody have any pics of their Redmans or Halfbreeds. I've seen some that were not very... well "red."
Is this a common trait with yew? Looks to me that the flash makes them look a lot brighter and yellow. If anybody gets a sec can you take a pic outside without the flash?

Here is the link to my Halfbreed. It is a great shooting bow, very smooth, very quiet and forgiving.

Yew ages like Osage over time. It starts out kind of a yellow to butterscotch color and turns more red over time. It is a beautiful wood and a great performer!

Nice. Thanks again. Anybody have pics of an "aged" one?
So looks like a bubinga riser and tips will have a nice red on red contrast. I've seen some pics of the Texas ebony, kind of red, more like a brown w/ a light/burgundy tint. Still a good match.

The first Redman I saw was at ETAR at Denton Hill, PA.  It was not red at all just sort of a pale orange/tan.  I have one now that I ordered and asked Craig for some colorful, figured yew.  My new bow had gorgeous deep red yew right from the beginning and has not changed any that I can tell over the 2-3 years I have had it.  Sorry but no pics to post....Dave

My HH Halfbreed is definitely a lighter shade of yew than either of my St. Charles Pacific Yew bows. I think Jay goes "yew hunting" all over the northwest for his selection.  I'm not sure where Craig gets his for the Redman and Halfbreed.  I do believe the yew on the Halfbreed has darkened a bit over time.  Sorry I don't have any pics available to show the difference.  They are both great bows.

Here's me shooting my Half Breed. Not a great shot for the colors though I'm afraid.

I have a redman that is not red. It is kind of an orange color. Honey orange. I don't know. But I like the way yew shoots. Also, I like the looks of the cheetah better. JMO I have both.
