If you can buy any recurve bow right now what would it be? I do not want this to be a debate on this bow is better than that bow, but a recommendation!
A couple of monthes back my favorite recurve, that I killed my first traditional kill with broke. Now I am looking for a replacement and wanted a little imput. I am planning on buying in the next couple and want to look at as many bows as possible before buying.
Thanks!
I ran over my first Border Swift. If I somehow broke the replacement, I would buy another Border. I wouldn't even entertain the thought of another recurve! Biased. Yep! :)
What was your favorite recurve?
Killdeer
predator with out a doubt
http://www.huntersniche.com/predator_bows.htm
and the review in TBM mag:
http://www.bowreports.com/recurve-bows/predator/classic.htm
Black Widow PTF X, Curly Bubinga, Kingwood or some other nicely figured dark wood, 56" long 52 lbs @ 28". But the same bow in Graybark would be just fine (for me)
Can't beat a Morrison!! Either Cheyenne or Shawnee with Arapaho limbs. :wavey:
Acadian Woods Classic Recurve!
Look at Abe Penner's Cari-bow company of recurves (he makes a mean longbow too but you said recurve). He makes a one-piece and three piece that are as good as anyones. They are smooth to draw, shoot where you point, and he is a fine man to deal with. i can only speak for Abes cause everything else i own is a longbow of some form or fashion. There are many good bowyers out there to choose from. He is the only one i can speak about firsthand.
BLACK WIDOW for sure
Well? :saywhat:
Killdeer- It was an Acadian Woods Classic Recurve.
If it was your favorite, why not buy another? I found a used Super Shrew that I fell in love with...so much so that I sold off other bows to purchase a new one. If you find a fit, why mess with success? Good luck and let us know what you decide. ;)
Thanks, Tim, I thought I had said that, but not in so many words.
Killdeer :archer:
Assenheimer, I shot a bunch of bows at a trad. shoot and it was the nicest bow I shot. And not a bad price.
For some reasons of my own I would like to try another brand. That is why I am asking.
Thanks

My two favorites are the Zipper SXT and Black Widow PSA.
Everyone has a different favorite. Mine is the one I'm shooting this week. You must look deep within yourself grasshopper.
dryad orion or black mountain sheepeater, both are sponsors and both are exelent bows
Bob Lee take-down is what I would get.
Shane if you can hold out a month for the LTB shoot you check out a lot of bows in person. I doubt they'll be many vendors there but I suspect just about anyone there will let you try their bow out.
Do your self a favor and give Mike Rash of Legends Bows a call ( sponser on this site). I bought a mountain bow from him for hunting about 2 months ago, have been so impressed I ordered another one only this one is "eye candy" Safari Elite model. I know there are a lot of good bows out there, and this is definately one of them - smooth stable accurate quiet and fast, thanks Jerry.
I'm with killy on this one, if that was your favorite bow then why not by another.
If you want to try something new, give a look at the Zipper SXT, Morrisons, Schafers, Black Swans, Black Mountains, Holm-Made, Predators, Black Widows, Lees, etc etc etc There are so many excellent bows available now it would be hard to pick a bad bow, just maybe one that doesn't fit you is possible. If you can go to shoot and try some stuff then that's what I'd do in your position.
The qusetion is tough! the anwser is BLACKTAIL BOWS .but dont be in too much of a hurry its a 1 yr wait atleast good things take time! another thing to consider is almost every bow mention in this post can be found in our classifide section great bows. great people. great prices!!!
My input is that you go to a large trad shoot this summer (Cloverdale, Denton, or Compton) and shoot a mess of bows. This will provide you a better guage of what you like and don't like in a bow. All of our advice will be biased to what we as individuals like.
If you need a bow in the meantime, pick up an inexpensive used one on the classifieds or **** and use it until then.

I'd look at three things: performance, price and reputation. Price would knock out some of the major brands mentioned above. Performance would knock out some of the "lower" brand names. I'd put Rivers Edge performance up against any of the majors and he's also equal in workmanship and rep.
Bowmania
Shot many different Recurves, Black Widow at the moment, but have to try out some other brands!
I 2nd the Cari-bow!
I'd suggest giving JD Lund a call at Whisperstik. One of the best new bowyers around, great price, superb service and a real sweet recurve. He's a sponsor here, too.
I would like another Widow PSA or Shrew 54" recurve.
Your choice of any Aluminum riser that accepts ILF limbs.Because you would have to work hard to destroy the riser and you can get good limbs between $100-$200 in a few days if you do have an accident.
You also have more tuning options and you can experiment with different things if you want like plungers and rests or just shoot off the shelf.
Killdeer nailed what I was thinkin right off...
There are a good many bows out there, can you make Denton hill in July ?? hands on is the only real way to know what it feels like to "you"
Morrison's never seem to last long on the classifieds, neither do shrew's or centaurs I'm sure a few others too
Good luck
I would buy a Hummingbird Kingfisher recurve . It is one of the best I have ever owned or shot and he has several in stock . www.hummingbirdbows.com (http://www.hummingbirdbows.com)
saluki gengis
OK- Now I have another question. I have the oppurtunity to buy another bow like I had from a friend of mine. BUT the weight is about 4lbs more than I feel comfortable with. What could I do to reduce the poundage without bringing it to the bowyer that built it?
Thanks
RER's-ARROYO would be the one to compliment the VORTEX,LX and LXR that I have. Nice fast/smooth shooting bows. Certainly worth your time to check out. Craftsmanship is 2nd. to none!
Good Luck
Rick
A Howard Hill Tembo. I really like my hybrid but now I gotta try a Hill.
If you decide not to buy another like the one you really liked check out www.blacktailbows.com (http://www.blacktailbows.com) Norm makes a wonderful bow.Or WWW.foxarchery.com (http://www.foxarchery.com) Ron makes a beautiful bow too. Frank
Mike,
When and where will Sterling Harrell be held this year.
Billy
Billy - The Sterling Harrell is April 25/26 at the Mountain Bayou Lake Scout Ranch. (close to Chicot State Park)
Shane, I've had Ted Fry @ Raptor Archery take down the weight on a couple of bows for me and he does a good job. You are looking at $100+ though so factor that in before making a decision. Used bows are cheap right now..
Well I gave $125 for it. So if I add another $100 it will still be a good deal.
After shooting a Quinn Stallion I stopped looking. For me it's the one.
Hornes Mountain Recurve. I had a TD virsion I sold a couple years back :banghead:
If it is the Acadian Woods recurve Shane, you didn't get a good deal, you got a great deal.
Take down or one piece?
Billy
RERBOWS Rivers edge recurves, either their Arroyo in a one piece or a T/D XR. These bows are very quick, very quiet and Kevin and Sue are great to deal with. The craftmanship is seond to none as well!! Shawn
Thunderhorn 3 Piece TD Longbow!!!!
Billy, your right it was a great deal. It is a one piece. I just came back from a meeting at Toledo Bend yesterday went to get the bow and the guy GAVE it to me. He would not take any money. Just asked for a pack of deer sausage. I almost fell on the floor. I hope to bring it to Thistlewaite for the shoot but do not know if I will be in town.
Shane
Shane,
Are you living right or what? What did you give up for lent that scored that big? That guy might rate sausage for a couple of years!!! I would like to see it at Thistlewaite.
Does your company have a policy about weapons and bows in company vehicles? Can you shoot while on the road in the evenings with daylight savings time?
Good luck in that far off north country of Kansas and be safe on the road.
Billy

I also like my Chek-Mate Falcon, if you're looking for something custom at a lower price.
Bronz that is a good lookn bow.
Robertson recurves!!!
TD Blacktail Elite VL
I love my Border and my Widow, but I am a collector and the Blacktail is an eyecatcher.
BRONZ, you're going to like that High Sierra. Frank
If I wanted a new recurve I'd build myself a T/D hybrid. Teasing!! :saywhat:
I'd have to advise you to shop the Robertson Stock bow page especially if you cant wait long. Do you lack the ability to postpone gratification? Sadly, most of us (men)do! :goldtooth: ;)
Other than that I'd say peruse TBM adds, web-sites etc and see what strikes your fancy.
If you can get to a shoot bring a bunch of different arrows so something will fly good out of each bow you may want to try. And dont worry about where your arrows impact too-much at first (tuning will be off so it's largely irrelevant) but think more about how the fit and manners are after the shot. You will know!!
Check out the Toelke line up too. (Web-site).
Hope this helps.
