I got this in my email from our newest member, "helena"... Please be aware that this is not a real offer. These scammers operate from overseas, and due to this, there is nothing that American law enforcement can do about it. I already tried when i got an email like this before(that previous one was not from a Trad Gang member) PLEASE BE AWARE, AND PLEASE DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You would be shocked at the number of people who do fall for things like this and similar schemes. Even worse than the criminals in these cases are the banks who knowingly allow ignorant people to become involved, then (legally) sock the victim with thousands in fees when it all falls apart. Yeah, it happens a lot.
I got the exact same e-mail not a half hour ago.
I must not be a good person I didnt get one. :(
I'll supply them with MY bank account! They'll just laugh! LOL!!! :readit:
It's the oldest one in the book. If someone does fall for it......they deserve it.
L82HUNT I could forward it to you!
I have gotten 3 emails from the infamous HELENA today.
My gosh theives will try anything. That was a nice touch throwing in the fasting and prayer part , I HATE A THEIF !
I get about 20 of those a day. Gimme a break!!
I got verbatim same one!!
Seems dumb but I see people daily at work that get scammed of their lifes savings.Any good hunting over there in Aberdjan? Maybe I can go see old Helena once she gets her finances in order. With that kind of bread she could buy me a ticket.
E-mail it's self is not unusual. I get these scam offers all the time, but this one got my info from Tradgang it seems and that is the unusual part!
Just showed today in my email...sent it to my spam acct.
She doesn't say...........maybe she shoots a 'yumi'?
just got onine and had 2 from "helena" my own self!
I just got the same one also.... Keefers
Just got it 1 min ago
Just got one at 5:03. Seems "helena" is very busy
Just got mine. I assured her I was honorable, but broke, so I needed an initial cash deposit. No checks :readit:
Got it also I sent it directly to trash..
If any of you have aged parents, watch them carefully. My father started sending minor amounts of money to these outfits that claim to be holding millions in sweepstake money... they ripped him off for a lot before I found out and put some safeguards in place.
Now they're buggin him daily through the mail with offers from fortune tellers, soothsayers and such... offering him "insights" for winning lotto #'s and such.
Breaks my heart! My father was/is the most Christian, God-fearing man I've known and since Mom died, he's off the hook wanting to win a lot.
Our local Office of Aging tells me they're really preying on the elderly who want to leave a "legacy" for their loved ones...and often wiping out their bank accounts of stealing their identies!
We can laugh. But I for one cry... so many aged folks are being truly beaten to death...losing everything...
...even their bows and arrows (just to keep it trad related!)
I hate these predators!
'She' just registered and started spamming folks.
Helena was banned.
Fortress Cleared. :readit:
Great response time Terry. Good looking out.
Would have been done earlier...but I was out of town....and evidently Rob was as well.
I received an email this evening. It automatically went into my Junk Folder. I noticed something was in my Junk Folder I had no idea what it was until I opened the folder. And once I looked at the email and noticed it was "Helena" I know to leave it as junk by marking it as unsafe and it was deleted. I'm glad I read this thread before I received the email. I would not have been tempted to have opened it, however, because even though it was typed in "English" the grammar of the email that was copied and pasted in the thread was atrocious and it just didn't flow properly. It read like a foreigners efforts to speak English.
Bill
Well, I'm INSULTED!! Evidently, Helena doesn't see the same kind traits in me that she did in you who recieved the note. I try to be good!
Thanks for making the effort to be sure no one gets caught by something like this- and for ending the hassle that it is to even see it in the In-Box.
My Dad used to say, "Too soon old, too late smart." Glad that doesn't have to come into play here!
what!!! that was a scam..... oh crap!
Just got that email...deleted. Thanks for the heads up.
1 Timothy 6:9-10 People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.
Greedy people prey upon greed.
lol reading that made me laugh =]
~sniff~ I feel so sorry for her!.....Where do I sign up for her account? :biglaugh:
I worry about this country when people DO fall for scams like this. Exactly how dumb do ya hafta be to fall for this?
Terry she may have been banned but while she was registered she evidently went through the site downloading email addresses, I got one last night.I can guarantee you 'Helena' does not exist, these scams are very common here, epecially Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Congo etc. I am a financial planner and in the bank we'd see these every week, young people and elderly come in eyes glowing to tell us they are going to be rich, it's all a scam to get your bank acc details and then they clean you out.
chrisg
If my wife even smells a name like Helena in my inbox I'm more then dead twice over!
Helena is back as Helen and just registered again. Using a different email address this time.
I just found the exact same message in my e-mail word for word. I can not believe these people think they can get away with this. I hope everyone stays on guard even for your loved ones who may be naive and fall for this.
Yes...she did register two more times...both were banned.
She wasn't 'downloading' email addys. She can't get into the system to do that, and not ever sure I can do that and I cant get into the system ...she was just clicking on folks and copy and pasting them. She was just a 'member' and couldn't do anything as a member that you all can do. Again, she can't get into the control system. If she was that smart, she wouldn't be fooling with Trad Gang with this scam.
I got the email as well! This one has been around for years!
Someone should tell her that she has to keep it about Trad Bowhunting or her thread might get pulled :bigsmyl: :biglaugh: Sorry I couldnt resist
If Helen is doing business here, does she not have to be a sponsor? :p :saywhat:
ya know they would quit sending these out if it never worked. but it must be working!!!
I got something like this the other day. Just think...if these things didn't work with somebody / somewhere they wouldn't do it!
I read the other day of a guy that was taken for over 150K in one of the Nigerian 419 scams.
All it takes is one or two bites out of the millions of emails that go out to make it profitable for these people. It costs them next to nothing to send the spam so anything they get is profit.
Can we open a season? Or is it illegal?
Got one in my yahoo email today.
This is super common. I can't believe the number of oil executives, bankers, mining magnates etc who die in plane crashes and car wrecks. if they are so smart in the first place to make this kind of money, why don't they have a decent will.
I must have gotten 100's of these over the years.
Terry, please have someone check the system because they can hack into the system and mine all sorts of info. kids can get into the DOD computers. They could possibly use Tradgang as a portal into our sponsors sites.
razor...Rob will be here in a bit...

Firstly and most importantly, Trad Gang has not been hacked or compromised in any way. We're on our own, private, boiler plated UNIX server - not Microsoft, and that's a huge difference.
Trad Gang is a FREE and PUBLIC consortium of CGI/HTML flatfile "database" forums. Most anyone can register and post. One of the privileges of membership is the ability to use our internal communicator - the PM engine. These private messages are created and controlled soley by the membership, and there are no restrictions regarding message content.
IF, as a member, you elect to allow your email address to be viewed by others, it can be compromised for any usage, good or bad.IF you use Trad Gang for your unauthorised own use, we reserve the right to terminate your membership. This certainly applies to anyone registering with nefarious motives, such as spamming members.
That's really all there is to say about this topic.
Umm, well, not really.
Have you ever gotten spam email from yerself or from an email address that you absolutely know isn't a spam address? Spammers can hijack, use an email address as if it was the origin of the email, but it really isn't. If, in your email application, you list that email as spam, you're essentially banning all email from the good email address! Be careful!
Now, back to helping a good fellow Trad Ganger out with a bow deal that's gone waaay bad. The fun never ends ...
Well, we sure your patience Rob and Terry. Mods too. I'm sure it's hard work. But it's your hard work that keeps the few bad apples frm spoiling the bunch. That's my biggest fear.
This is such a wonderful place. But as it grows, and humanity spirals futher down the every year, these things will happen more. It's unavoidable. The increae in occurrence, that is.
Pleeeeease don't let it ruin our site.
And by the way... I too am offended that this sweet, devout girl has apparently found me unfit to gaurd her money and 18 year old body upon her arrival. :biglaugh:
Oh well, Helen. I'll just muddle through with my AMERICAN wife and HONEST pay.
(The gremlin I wanted to put at the end of that paragraph apparently does not exist. Sign language... of sorts.)
Got the same email yesterday with a different name.
The story just breaks your heart, doesn't it? NOT!
When I get these I just send a short reply.
Get a F****** Job!

That's the second worst thing ya can do. If you reply, then they know they've got a live host so they can distribute (sell) yer email address to other scammers.
Best thing to do is check the 'from' address, and if ya don't know it just add it to yer junk mail list or create an email filter to catch it before it hits yer 'in' box.

Dont let them get under your skin, thats what the delete button is for!
You wouldn't believe how many of these I get by way of my email address posted on my Christian web-site.
The ones I get are wanting my account number so they can donate millions of dollars to my ministry, so the local "sinners" can't get it.
I usually email them back and tell them the appropriate thing to do is to give the money to the "sinners" in their country........ because that's what the Lord would want them to do, but if they insist on me having it, they can just put the money in my Paypal account at highnoonhunter@yahoo.com, and I'll be glad to transfer it to my Ministry account! :goldtooth:
