I have a new bow ordered and was wanting opinions on favorite wood combos you like for riser and limbs?
cocobolo seems hard to beat in a riser, but looking for opinions on differant wood combos.
It will be for a longbow.
Thanks.....Ron :help:

bamboo or osage goes good with cocobolo I think, maybe a cocobolo riser with a osage stripe and osage limbs, or solid cocobolo riser with bamboo limbs
-
I'm partial to Cocobolo and Curly Maple. Coco and Osage with some Bocote is growing on me also.
Cocobolo and almost anything goes well together in my opinion.
Gaboon Ebony, Bloodwood, and Osage can make a nice looking bow as well.

Thanks. i like the look of bocote with cocobolo.

I like things simple. Cocobolo riser with either Yew or Osage Limbs. clean and classic

cocobola and bocote riser with juniper venners. but the bocote has to be dark and figurative same with the cocobola. also the junipe needs to be about half redish and half withish with some character .know that would make my perfect combo for me.

Got a Dwyer that should be here next week, Osage/Cocobolo Riser, yew limbs (bamboo core). I like the yellowish/orangish look of the yew and osage with the contrast of the reddish cocobolo.

Pretty hard to pick just one combo. My favorite riser combos include Zircote and Osage, Koa and Ebony, Cocobolo and Zebrawood.

bamboo and bubinga goes good together.

Here's one I'm building for my buddy Jeff, it's Pao Ferro with a piece of curly maple from one of my trees, and a phenolic overlay, the limbs are very figured bocote, a nice looking combo that would look great in cocobolo too. but my personal favorite is bloodwood, I just built an all bloodwood longbow but it's a little heavy 120# @30 and I draw 30, have to do a little trimming, about 15# or so, but it's a shooter for sure.

ebony, either gaboon or macasser or stripped. The black gaboon goes well with most any other wood the stripped is great just by itself.

Bubinga and black locust look nice together,

Kelly, Because no two pieces of wood look alike it's really hard to tell without actually being there and looking at the wood. The last bow I ordered was from Ancient Spirits and I just told Tracy "you're there looking at the wood so just pick out something really nice for me". He choose sasafrass for the limbs. Now that is probably one of the last woods I would have chosen but they turned out to be some of the nicest limbs I've ever seen. He used honduras rosewood for the riser to make me a very, very good looking bow. So sometimes it's nice to give the bowyer an idea of what you want then let them use their artistic ability to choose what they think matches up good. Brokenwing

kelly I'm with you bocote/cocoabolla is real nice. But the more I look I also like bubinga/blacklocust and ebony/osage.One of the prettiest risers I have seem in a long time is one that Bob Morrison has on his "instock" Dakotas. It's macasser ebony with osage looks like a killer bee check it out if you get a chance.

I'll have to go check some sites and take a look!My liberty i just got is cocobolo riser and yew limbs. My Griffin was cocobolo riser and yew back.
Thanks......Ron

Hi Ron,
That Griffin gets better looking every day, thanks again. I really like ziricote for a riser, and think it would really shine with yew limbs. Course the individual piece of wood often makes more difference than the variety.

Your Griffin is one of the nicest looking longbows i've seen!!!!!!!! :clapper:
I've seen GREAT looking cocobolo and not so GREAT,i guess you can say that about all the woods!!!

Thanks to everyone.....Ron

Cocobola and Osage make a real pretty rise. I would go with coco dymondwood though as it adds some mass and is tough as nails. I have a Kwyk styk with Bacote and coco, but like osage much better. Shawn
