Title: Shipping a bow to France?
Post by: Red Boar on March 18, 2009, 11:51:00 AM
Had a fellow Tradganger make this request. Anyone with experience?  What should I look out for? Carrier?   Any ball park figure of the price I am looking at?  Thanks in advance!  :notworthy:

Thanks, Mark. Is there a reason USPS would be better than UPS?

USPS= -$ than UPS or FedEx. Just be sure you meet the size requirements.

I haven't checked out UPS or Fed Ex, USPS was requested by the purchaser.  If your looking at shipping that sweet Morrison you may want to check out the insured max amount.  I have heard there are some length restrictions which can be a problem for one piece.

I shipped a bow to France a couple of years ago.Maximum length with the USPS for International is 60",if it is longer then that you have to use another carrier and it will get expensive.I shipped a 70" longbow to France and it cost $122.50 and this was a couple of years ago,but he recieved it in 6 days safe and sound,I shipped it in a PVC tube.If it is a T/D I would ship USPS and it might run $40-50.

Correct...thanks for the help.  I just returned from the Post Office.  54 dollars Priority and 58 dollars Express.  Insurance information is correct as well...they can only insure for 650.00 max.    :readit:   Thanks again.

Some simple advice. Know the length restrictions, someone here may not know and accept the package but that doesn't mean the Customs Officer won't know the rules and at best return the package and you lose shipping or at worst keep it and insurance won't help because the package wasn't legal. Second, if the bow is a takedown more valuable than $650, send it in two boxes and charge for the shipping/insurance of both. If the buyer won't accept this then sell it elsewhere. You'll be the one that loses if something happens and it's damaged. PayPal is going to side with the buyer in that case.
