Title: dacron to D97 brace differences
Post by: ozy clint on March 17, 2009, 06:34:00 PM
currently using dacron and want to give D97 a go. my bow braces best at 7 1/2" to 7 5/8" with dacron endless. will changing to D97 change the best brace height?

It might because of the preformance.  You'll have to go thru the tuning process again to find the D97 sweet spot.

Shouldn't really change it.  Might be able to get away with a tad less brace height because there'll be less stretch in the string, but the difference will be negligible, IMO.  It will just shoot faster at the same brace height.  Good luck.

Depends on how many strands in the string. If the low-stretch string is significantly lighter in weight, you can drop the brace height considerably. When I converted my longbow years ago, I dropped the brace height about an inch when going from dacron to 14 strand fast flight. Bow performance improved noticeably, but I had to have the tip overlays redone after a while, because the FF cut through the originals.

It can.  The sweet spot for all (I think) of the longbows I switched over (including my selfbows) was lower with a low-stretch string than with dacron... most by ~1/2".  The recurves were a mixed bag; one liked a slightly higher brace and the other slightly lower.

Much the same, lower brace heights for both 'curves and LB with the D97, 1/2+-.
