Title: Fletching jigs.....assistance with chosing
Post by: Norseman on March 16, 2009, 09:21:00 PM
Good Day everyone.

Just getting back into archery and decided that trad was the way to go....and like everything else I do ( fly fishing, Fly tying, rod building) I like to do most of the fun stuff myself, so I am going to build my own arrows too.

I was wondering what fletching jig will do me the best...is there a big difference in them? Is the Bitzenburger worth the money..or is there comparable models out there?

I am sure a single fletch jig will do, as I am going to use tape and don't need a gang style jig that will hold half a dozen arrows.

Bottom Line...what jig will give me the best bang for the buck.  By the way...I live in Canada, so any I can get here would be a plus.

Thanks for your time
Best regards
Paul

Norseman in my opinion the bitzenberger is the best jig ever made. Its well worth the money and will last you forever.I wish i had a dollar for every arrow i fletched with mine.

I like the JoJan.  There is nothing that keeps you from wiping excess glue from both sides of the feather like some other models.

BTW, I may be a Kansan, but I'm a Vikings fan!

The Bitz is the best jig made, you will not find a better one.

I concur on the Bitz.  I don't mind fletching my own arrows, and do, often.  BUT....for what you can get MTO arrows done for, today, I do it.

My Bitz gets used to replace damaged feathers/arrows.

Good luck with your choice.

I have 2 bitz's... 1 sat up for my RW feathers and the other for my LW feathers. This way I dont have to adjust them..I tried the others and came back to the bitz...Roy

I have several Jo-Jan multis including the original Multi-Fletcher(circa 1950) before Jo-Jan apparently bought them out.  I also have a number of Bitz and looking for more.

Both work well within their capabilities - but the Bitz has a LOT higher capabilities.  Bar none - the best.  I got the multis because they were much cheaper.  You get what you pay for!

"Is the Bitzenburger worth the money?"

Yes.

Another vote for JO JAN.  Might as well get one now, because you're going to want one later anyway.  Do 6 arrows at a time.  I fooled around making arrow for yrs. w/ that single Bitz, -- making 6 at a time, makes it a WHOLE lot MORE FUN.  - and a bonus for me, is that I wind up w/better fletched arrows.  Bitz is fine, but a 6 fletch jo jan is the way to go. IMO

I thought blitzenburgers were too expensive, but I bought one anyway.  That was 13 years ago, and it still works like brand new.  I've had no reason to try any other type of fletcher.

I'm sure the others have fans too; but for me, Bitz-the only way to go!

Just bought a Bitz, recently.  Wish I'd have bought it years ago.
