i am hoping i can get some feathers made from somone on here soon of of a bird that i will hopefully kill. i have always wanted real turkey feathers and would be glad to pay a reasonable price to have some cut and chopped.
oh my it is too easy, i actualy use a pet nail grinder to grind the bases as flat as possible, then just cut a pice of cardboard the shape and size i want, tape the freather and cut to shape.
Check out David Mitchell of Custom Feathers if you send him both wings he will grind which ever wing you want for fletching and ship back as a swap out. Go to the Sponsers Classified section he even has a video to show you how to prepare them for shipping. I just sent off and got back a couple of hundred and was very pleased with the results.
Just come up to the house TJ and I'll fix you up. I still have several hundred feathers in the freezer we can play with. I also have several different choppers to choose from. We could do a turkey hunt too.
Stripping feathers is VERY easy once you get the hang of it.
There's a good article in the March 2009 Traditional Hunter mag that goes through it for you. You've just got to do it yourself. No greater satisfaction then gyour game with fletching you harvested. They also are the best fletching, they wear like iron.
thanks for the responses--still not a member of t. bowhunting yet.
jeff we do need to get together and you can teach me how to make them from scratch and the hunt idea is also very nice!
you need to come down some time and see if we can find a hog.

I just started doing my own.I can say I will rarely be buying anymore premade fletching. The investment in the belt sander and choppers is well worth it,than paying the ridiculous price of natural feathers.
