i've got a new griffin that i absolutely love, but i keep tearing up one of the hen feathers.no matter how i turn my nocks i'm getting contact.i'm using 5" shield cut fletched left wing.lefthanded bow.does anyone know how to remedy this problem?
thanks
Might try raising your nocking pt up around 1/2 or better.
Are the feathers catchin the rest or the side plate?
not sure where they're hitting.after i shoot the feather looks like i pulled it through my hand backwards.
Sounds like you might be a bit stiff with the spine. Have you bareshafted?
Mike
when i bare shafted they flew slightly tail right, mike.this is the first time i've had this happen.its getting a little frustrating.
I think your arrow is too stiff, play around with point weight, or a longer/weaker shaft
i'm shooting ce 150's 29.5" and 125 gr. pts.
they fly slightly tail right when i bare shaft(i'm lefthanded).
Whats the bow weight at your draw?

Hate to confuse the issue, but that's not necessarily a symptom of fletch/shelf contact... Could just be that the feathers have lost a little of their natural "stiffness" and are starting to fold forward at impact.
Wear from shelf contact will start showing up at the edge of feather. They'll start to look frayed and transparent at the tips.
If you're convinced they're making contact, take some powder or lipstick and coat the edge of your inboard feather(s). See if it marks your shelf.
I think Curtis is right, I got some arrows that do the same thing and they are th outside feathers away from the bow. None of my others do it, just one particular batch, less than great feathers maybe.

My older, well shot feathers tend to do that too. May be time to re-fletch.

I was watching some super slo mo video. I used to cut a gap between my shelf material and my riser plate material.....thinking the feather went through the gap.
Question...
After watching the aforementioned videos....I learned the feathers arc around the area due to the archer's paradox. Are we making much ado about nothing....worrying about feather contact?
the bow is a 60"er and 50#s @ 28"s and jdc pulls 28 1/2"s maybe 28 3/4"s. I know his feathers are pretty darn new and I also know he removed the shelf material and strike plate (just curious) and still has the problem. I personally don't think it is a clearance problem since the feathers are getting muffed backwards on impact but who knows. it's a mystery as of now anyway.
okay guys.i did some bare shafting today.the heritage 150 is actually showing slightly stiff.
the 35/55 is showing slightly weak.i'm gonna fletch up some of the gt's and see how they do.
thanks for all the info.
the gt's fly like darts fletched.shot my woodsmans out to 30yds.arrows fly great.i don't understand why the 150's showed weak when i bareshafted yesterday.today they showed slightly stiff.i guess i'm gonna be shooting goldtips.
