Just curious about the possibility of an internal foot,basically a long insert say 2.5 - 3".
I suspect that would significantly stiffin the spine of the arrow but would it strengthin the buisness end of the arrow or just change the weak spot of just behind the insert to further from the tip?
Not even sue if it would be worth the trouble but I'd think you could take a weak shaft and stiffen it enuff to shoot a heavier FOC

I'm not sure if thats possible or realistic to do just to effect the spine but I do jb weld my 3 50 grain weights in along with the insert to strengthen the end up to avoid the insert/ broadhead failures discussed by Ashby. The insert and weights are about 1 1/2 long and I think the extra contact area versus the single insert does make a more solid point of contact. Bhill
I wasn't so concerned about doing it to effect the spine so much as I've heard folks that have shot the muzzy shoot put an alum foot over the outside of their carbons to keep them from breaking. I'd guess that would also effect the spine since the flexable part of the shaft is now 2-3" shorter.
"Possible"?? LOL Ofcourse it is "realistic" probably not from a production standpoint but for myself it may not be too bad
One could make a solid brass/steel or alum insert with a tapered end for glue on heads eliminating the adapter all together like they have now for alum arrows.

with the muzzys all you have to do is ad 5gr brass washer be hind the head to keep from spliting the shaft... The Perfect Arrow thread is the ticket with the carbon insert, i`ll be trying it really soon... it sounds like exactly what swampbucks looking for high foc an strength. I`m going to try it with the axis shafts gotta love that small dia. it blows through every thing i shoot if i can get the internal footing to work it will be one hell of shaft strong, thin, i guess in the upper 25-30% foc... check it out
gold tip has the weight system thy have some long aluminun and brass that you could build up behind.

The new carbon collars from 3 Rivers work great to keep from splitting your carbon shafts.

Tom, a long internal footing would help but a 2-3" one would just make the weak point farther back. To me a 1.5" aluminum footing works perfect as all it really does is stop the insert from being jammed deep into the shaft which makes the arrow mushroom which in turn gives the insert side to side movement which than breaks the shaft. Tome, Like Shawn said.....but I use a 1" outside foot/collar on my muzzy arrows. With some good epoxy to keep the insert from breaking loose,and the footing epoxied on the outside,it makes for a virtually unbreakable (on the front end) shaft.
I think a x-long insert would work too. more surface area to be epoxied would make the end stronger....
