Im currently shooting 1916'S that weigh in at about 450gr,they shoot great.But i have access to two and a half dozen 2216's (CHEAP}.I think i can make them fly good with the help of a 100gr brass insert,but i cant find any brass inserts for 2216's.When finished the 2216's would weigh about 620gr.
SHOULD I WASTE MY TIME?

Sputters -- There was a thread here a week or more ago on this same general topic -- folks trying to find brass or steel inserts for aluminum arrows. I may disremember, but seems the conclusion was that the only inserts available for alum shafts are also aluminum ... another good reason to switch to carbons. I'm sure if I'm wrong we will soon hear about it, and I hope I am. But frankly, given all the new science about arrow weight and FoC especially, aluminums seems increasingly out of the running for big game hunting compared to carbons and hardwood or hardwood-footed woods. An alternative is to buy heavier broadheads, like the ABS "Ashby" at 320 grains. But then, Ashby's research shows that aluminum inserts often fail and so it doesn't sound smart to match a heavy head like that with weak hardware. Even so, depending on how cheap you can get these shafts, you certainly should be able to find some use for them, eh? Target, small game, stumping ... dave

there was a thread a little while back by O.L or Doc Ashby, I think. Anyway it was about the perfect arrow and using a hardwood insert glued into the first 3 inches or so of the arrow and then having a parabolic taper to a point inside the arrow. Check it out and it may help fix you problem.

Thanks Dave2old, I had cheap on the brain.Im just impatient.I could get the 2216's tomorrow and would have to wait awhile to afford a couple dozen carbons.

Mark, I started a thread on this issue last week and was contacted by a buyer for 3 rivers archery. The latest is I have done 3-D autocad drawings and sent them to a cnc machinist. He is in the process of getting manufacturing costs to the product buyer as we speak. 3 rivers has told us that the inserts should be made to fit the new gamegetter II series aluminum shafts (340's, 400's and 500's). If all goes as planned there will be two weights 50 and 100 grain in these three diameters.
This just goes to show how attentive 3 rivers archery is to all of us. Support them whenever you can guys because they are here for us.

Would anyone have any interest in a 125 or 150 grain model?

Sputterman, check out 3-Rivers, I think they sell screw in points up to about 175grs. They are cheaper than the brass inserts too. Frank

Here's what I've been doing. I picked up some 2219s for a smokin price, but need some weight up front to make them shoot. I tapped the insert all the way thru and took a brass 8x32 bolt glued and threaded it into the back of the insert. Added 55 gr. to the insert. With this setup the arrow weighs in at 700gr coming out of a 64# Schafer. did this with the inserts for carbon arrows as well. Would work for what ever size of aluminum, but one needs to check the insert to see if they can be tapped thru. Some can, others not.
