Title: Compton for vendors?
Post by: Jeff Strubberg on March 09, 2009, 12:48:00 PM
Looking for somewhere to fondle a bunch of longbows.  I'm thinking my stable could use another long longbow.

How is Comptons summer event for bow vendors?

Comptons is a great place to go and test drive bows.  A lot of vendors there with a lot of bows to try.  Try dropping Jeff Hren (SP?) a line.  He usually coordinates the vendors for the event.

Here is his profile:  http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_profile;u=00002889

IMHO, Of the big shoots that I've attended, Compton and ETAR usally has the most vendors...plenty of bowyers at both.

I'll be there with the RER Bows as well.  Always lots of bowyers and other vendors there, and so much more too.  Going to Compton is just about as good as going on a hunting trip.  Come on over Jeff - you won't be disappointed!

Date is June 19-21.  Lots of vendors.  An excellent place to try out and compare a lot of bows.

Jeff,

Whole bunch of the Sweat Hogs hang out at the Compton. I'll be there from Tue till Sun. Mel's coming up from Kansas as well. Brent's back in the neighbourhood as well and he'll be there.

Plenty of camping. You can even get up front if you want to camp by the aerial target range. Had a couple come about 20 yards away. Awesome breakfast buffet as well!!!!! Sure do hope they get the showers working. Cold, Cold, Cold!!!!!! Great time and plenty of bows.

Come on guy's No body has even mentioned the FREE! CHILI SUPPER on Friday. If you do come over Jeff, do not eat for at least 24hrs ahead of time. So much grub to eat on friday nite it is un real. Also a nice trade blanket sale on Saturday nite. You should be able to shoot about any long longbow you want. It is buy far my favorite shoot of the summer, have not missed one yet.
  See ya in June,
                 Chuck

Joe, It is open field camping.  The sooner you get there, the better the spot.  But there are always guys still pulling in after dark on Friday night, so just plan on coming!

To me, even though I don't have kids of my own to tote along, the best thing Compton has to offer is the family atmosphere.  Kids everywhere, and all having a great time.  It's wonderful to see.

How does it compare to ETAR in access to shooting and 3D targets and practice ranges?

Four hours if all goes well through Chicago.  That's always a big IF!  I've often thought about taking the ferry over just to avoid that mess.  Might just look into it this year - sure would make a more enjoyable trip!

I do camp there.  They have an area set aside for primitive camps (canvas tents, tipis, etc.) and I try to set up there.  There is also always a big group from Wisconsin that camps together back in the big field.  Talk to Jerry Karbon this weekend and I'll bet you can hook in with them.

That would be awesome to take the ferry across, nice and easy thats for sure!!! I'll have to talk to Jerry and Nate, that'd be cool to camp near the Wisconsin fellas'! Thanks for the info!

QuoteI do camp there.
That may be the understatement of the century...

The "primitive" guys get the nice shady spot and they do it up  RIGHT   I love to walk thru there and dream.  The wife will not go for a tipi..."how do you keep the bugs out?  No way!"

Compton is AWESOME and everybody should make a trip to check it out.

stickbowman It is easier to get to the courses at Compton they all start within a few hundred yards of the main tents, and camping area. The practice area is right behind the big tents. They have rineheart targets on the courses. Its a great place to go and sling some shafts.
