Title: what carbons for mild r-d longbow
Post by: ghost rob on March 08, 2009, 09:30:00 AM
I have a mild r-d longbow that I made that loves 40-45lb cedars. I have a 26" draw and I'm pulling 51# at the 26". I'd like to match some carbons to it. I'd like them to weigh about 500 gns with the points which is what the cedars weigh. The shelf is about 1/16" out from center. Any sugestions?

Rob,

Here is a link to a thread that includes a download for a dynamic spine calculator.  It allows you to put your bow in, get the spine needed and then design the arrow to achieve the spine.

I've now done four arrows for myself and others using the tool and they are shooting great.

Easton Axis or Beman MFX, either 500 or 400 depending on length.

Gold Tip 35/55 cut to 27"s with 175/190/or 250 up front.

I like the bemen or easton at the 500 size, I am shooting a recurve at 50 lb at 28 inces and am pulling a full 28 1/2 inch arrow. I am using 5.5 bananna fletch and 125 gr points....
