Title: Thunderstick Mag and MOAB comments
Post by: xtrema312 on March 05, 2009, 04:20:00 PM
Who has or has shot the mag and  MOAB, and what do you think of them?  How quiet, fast, stable, and smooth on the draw are they?  Are the grips on these two the same?

I have 2 MOAB's that I love. I can't say enough about them, awesome bow. If you search MOAB on here, you'll find a lot of threads talking about them.

My 16 yr old son shoots a 49# Mag, and its a sweet shooting bow. Fast shooting, quiet and easy to shoot. For myself, I prefer a little longer, but he loves it and shoots it well. Both are great shooting bows. I will say that the Mag is a great treestand bow, with its shorter length. For a shorter bow, it preforms as well as the longer models. If you can get a chance to shoot them both, I guess that would be the deciding factor.

Thanks for the input so far.  I will have to do some searches.  I searched the classified and got a lot of wanted and no for sales.  Figured that said something if anyone actually has one they don't sell or trade them much.

All I know is my buddy shot his new-to-him MOAB this weekend at a 3D shoot and put on a show. We all think his Widow longbows are now on the endangered list.

Had the MOAB and it was a great shooter.Fast Smooth and quiet.Never had a Mag.Dont forget the Thunderstick 111.Have had 2 of those and currantly shoot a 64 incher. Its my favorite model.Had the Ramhorn recurve to.Nice sticks.

The grips are very similar on all the Thundersick bows I have had.

What would be the difference between a 60" Mag. and a 60" MOAB?? Are they built on the same form?

I had a 60" MOAB for a while and it was a great bow.

Mike

I had a little trouble with my MOAB until I put the brace height up to 8". I think most people have them at 6 3/4 to 7". It now is a very good shooter. Hap

I have a T Mag and it is a slick shooting little bow.  No hand shock.  None, zero, nada, zip.

My brother has a MOAB.  There is a difference in the limb profile and grip.

My eyeball tells me his MOAB shoots a tiny bit quicker than the T Mag, for what that's worth.

I have a TS Mag that is almost an identical twin to BUCKY's bow. Mine is 56" 45#s. It shoots very quietly and zips my arrows pretty fast. I've never chrono'ed mine to see just what speed it shoots but it's fast. It draws very smooth and there is no hand shock when I shoot it. I like the way the handle fits my hand too. The Mag is a great bow and worth the money too.

How do the grips vary?  The MOAB looks to have maybe a neutral wrist.  Does the Mag have more of a straight LB grip?

How long a draw can you get from the mag before it starts to stack?

I've owned both and even though the MOAB "may" be faster, I thing the Mag is quieter and smoother. Jim can make a grip to your liking since my Mag had a recurve grip. Either way, both bows are great.

Jim Reynolds makes darn good bows.Very Reasonable by todays standards. I shot a ThunderStick III that was 57#s @ my 27" draw length. All BOO limbs. That bow did not feel like it was 57#s, a MOAB and I owned a 56" ThunderStick Mag. The Mag was one of the best bows I owned or shot.I had sold a "Big Name" hybrid and bought the 56" Mag. It blew the doors off the Big Name Bow. At almost half the price.  If you closed your eyes and drew it back you would think you were drawing back a 62/64" Longbow it was that smooth! I would still own the Mag today if it was a few #s heavier. It was 42#s @ my 27" draw. Someday I will own another either a MAG or a MOAB .By the way BUCKY bought a MAG because of my 56"er.

Thanks for all the info.  It sounds like the mag will make a fine tree stand and blind bow.  Now I just need to get my hands on one to shoot.

I just got a new MOAB a couple weeks ago. Shoots great. Jim made it with the handle grip that I prefer and did just a super job.

Will a 60" MOAB handle a 30" draw ok ?

Not sure about the 60.Had the 62 and it was real smooth for me out to 30.The riser is not very long and I think the hybrid style is gonna help make it shoot better than some other 60 inch bows for your long draw.

might send an E-mail to Jim and see what he says.

Ya I am wondering about the grips also.  I know you can probably get some optional ones, but I am wondering about the standards on both bows if I find on used.

Choosing between a Mag and a MOAB is like choosing between cold beer and free beer. How can you go wrong with either one?
