Title: Elk Outfitters
Post by: Kyle Lancaster on March 05, 2009, 09:21:00 AM
Can you guys recommend reputable Elk Outfitters for traditional bowhunters? This is my first trip West and I'm taking the advice from the guys in the other thread by letting a pro do my first trip.

Thanks,
Kyle

I've used Bar-H outfitters successfully.  It takes a couple of years to draw into their area but they take care of the paperwork for you.  I've been twice and passed on a legal bull the first trip and killed a 5x5 last fall.  Randy and Jeanne are great folks. PM me if you would like addtional information.

Try Fred Eichlers operation which is Full Draw Outfitters or you could try Rick Edinger who has a family run outfitting operation which operates near Meeker Colorado. Rick and his boys shoot trad bows not sure if they are hunting with them these days but they had no problem with me hunting with my recurve. I don't think you would go wrong with either choice.

This last fall I hunted with Aram Barsch of Wolf Hollow Outfitters in Utah. Had an awesome hunt, can't say enough good about it. If you want to hunt big bulls it may take a long time to draw , however the cow/spike tag is over the counter and would be great hunt for a beginner. Look for my story in the next PBS issue.

Went with Bar-H in '04, with 4 other guys. Not much room to spread out because another camp of hunters was right over the next hill.  Did see some nice bulls, 4 pt. restriction in effect. You think they would remember us cause we stayed in their main lodge the first night there, and had a horse trip, throw the rider and almost roll over him in a creek bottom, but when we approached them at the following years show, did'nt know who we were. Good time, no animals taken; Won't go back.
