Howdy all. I recently switched from shooting right handed to left handed due to my EXTREMELY dominant left eye. Should have done it about 30 years ago. Any thoughts on how arrows should be fletched? As in what helical or right or left wing. Thanks! Randy
P.S..I have just been shooting my right handed arrows and they seem to be okay...............
If the right wings are working why change ? I had to go left wing because the right wing was whereing out my shelf material and cutting my bow hand .
I shoot both hands and, have arrows flected both. They all shoot the same.(at least to me)
I switched to shooting lefty about 10 years ago because of my dominate left eye. It helped me tremendously. I shoot right wing feathers because the leftys cut my hand on release, thats the only reason, because I think they will fly the same out of any bow. Good luck.
I'm a lefty and shoot left wing. Your suppose to shoot opposite your hand. To help stabilize archers paradox. It's never seemed to effect my tuning though.
it dont matter what ya shoot as long as they fly good and true. hell i even shoot with the cock feather in and it dont give a fat rats ass :biglaugh:
As said above, it really doesn't matter. FWIW I use left fletching and shoot left. Like macster, I have trouble with the fletching hitting the first Knuckle on my bow hand. This only happens with one of my bows. Turning the cock feather in prevents it and doesn't seem to make any difference in arrow flight.
When I went from right to left I just kept on using the arrows I had and they flew just fine, generally without performing any finger surgery on their way. I also shoot cock feather in, but that's just because I think I get a straighter flight - it has nothing to do with left v. right.
I shoot left handed. I use RW helical. For some bows it doesn't matter much but if you shoot off the hand go with Rightys.
The idea that if you shoot right handed you should shoot right wing feathers, or left wing feathers, and vice versa, is a myth that seems to be continually perpetrated. Either works fine for either hand. If you shoot off your hand and the leading edge of the fether cuts your hand, reposition the nock a little or shoot cock feather in, or yes, even shoot opposite wing feathers. Now, if you shoot a single bevel broadhead, you want to shoot feathers that match the bevel, i.e., left wing feathers with left bevel, etc. so they work in consort for greatest effect. The one disadvantage to left wing fletching occurs for those who use screw in points. Left wing fletching causes the arrow to spin counterclockwise causing the arrow to unscrew itself from the point on impact.
So that's why the little weasels want to come unscrewed all the time. Thanks.
havent we covered this before??
The arrow doesnt begin to spin until after it leaves the bow, so it makes no difference. I use whatever I have laying around, I usually shoot RW, but I have several people around work etc who give their turkey wings, and so I have probably close to 100 feathers of each wing.
Makes no difference Randy, RW or LW work the same
