Has anyone tried the "wood point adaptor" from Kustom King? http://ns1.bowsite.org/acb/showdetl.cfm?&DID=6&Product_ID=166&CATID=6
Not much info supplied in the ad, but the price is right, even cheaper than home-made adaptors from aluminum shafting. My concern is that if themetal adaptor fits on like a point -- that is, is hollowed into a female cone to slip over the end of a pointed wooden shaft, like a Woody Weight -- because it appears to project the screw-in head out at least an inch beyond the end of the wood and maybe more, I'd fear the excess torque absorbed from angled hits would really increase shaft breakage behind the adaptor. Whereas the aluminum shafting adaptor would seem to strengthen the tip because it fits down 3" or so over the shaft, like a sleeve. I'd love to hear your experiences with these things, thanks. Dave
Hi Dave, I experimented with those before the woody weights were available. They work pretty well, but take some getting used to in the looks department.
I hear your concerns on the breakage and I believe it a valid point, I did not experience that problem but I don't recall especially abusing one either.
Probably my only beef with them other than looks is for some reason the end that meets your screw in point is only 5/16", I'd rather they'd be 11/32" myself.

I have made them from old cut easton shafts. I think they work better then the ones you get from 3 rivers. I haven't used them, but I can cut the shafts so they fit better and the wood shaft will sit deeper in to the Alum shaft. This helps with keep the tip straighter.
Dave I used them last year in our DART league. They fit well on the cedar shafts and I got great flight from them. I did not hunt with them. They are greatly improved over the same style I used several years ago as far as quality. They spun true when mounted. Hope this helps.
Thanks, friends ... and keep 'em coming if there are others with experience with these little gadgets. Right now I'm enjoying a whilrwind of arrow experimentation, after having proven to myself not only the killing benefits of heavy arrows, but also the definite accuracy benefits of extremely heavy points (watch for a future TBM article by Ed Ashby for explanations, or check out the 2007 research on this website). Anyhow, if I have to shoot screw-in heads to get the necessary weight up front for the best accuracy and penetration on elk, well, I'm willing to open my old woody mind enough to play with the possibilities. Mostly I'm playing with ways to get carbon and screw-in benefits with wood arrows. I've tried the alum sleeve and like it, with reservations. I've tried Woody Weights and love them for target shooting, but worry about the weakness of the metal-metal joint for big game hunting. Right now I'm like a mad scientist playing with the possibilities (except I'm no scientist), and it's relatively cheap compared to my previous (currently resting) passion for bowyery. Thanks for your help and advice ... these adapters are so cheap, I think I'll spring for a dozen and see what happens. Of course, in the end I'd rather be able just to glue on a really heavy Ashby-style head and stick with woodies. But as I said in another thread recently -- I long ago learned how to wound and lose elk thanks to lousy penetration, no matter sharpness of heads and shot placement. Then several years ago, thanks to Ashby's early studies and my personal need to Get It Right or Quit, I learned how to kill elk and recover them within sight, no blood trail needed. I'm still working to refine the latter, and this EFoC stuff is really exciting. Cheers, dave
Dave, I used to use them to add a little length if I broke off a point, or as platform for various homebrew small game heads. Never used them for mounting broadheads though. Still got a bag of them kicking around somewhere. You're welcome to them if you'd like, I've gone on to other ways and means.
How could a metal to metal joint be weaker than a metal to wood joint?
I shot through(rib cage) 2 mature does this year with a 770grain wood arrow ( bh-185gr, arrow 520gr,adapter & etc 65gr)..Very solid rig. I love them. IMO The wood arrow tipped with the metal adapter/screw in head is stronger than a wood arrow tipped with a tapered head. It moves the weaker point more up the shaft. I shot shot and shot one wood arrow tipped with judo and another wood arrow tipped with metal adapter and then screw in judo.....Metal adapter/screw in judo lasted 5 times longer stump shooting..........so based on my expericnce shooting animals and judos...it is stronger IMO than plain ole arrow with a hot glue head.
Not much different in looks between that and a judo though. The judos look darn near the same.
Thanks I think I might order some.
Have lots of screw in tips, but not many glue on tips.

What's the grain weight on that wood point adapter?
Dave , I have a dozen (11/32) you can have if you want them. I put one on an arrow and didnt like the look of it. I'm not going to use them. Send me your address and I'll get them in the mail for you.....Roy
