Title: martin viper?
Post by: fountain on February 27, 2009, 09:43:00 PM
does anyone have or had a martin viper?  i have been looking at them and wondered how they shoot.  they seem like they would be some nice shooting bows with the boo/carbon limbs.  how would it comapare against a savannah?

Don't really know but I would imagine it would shoot a little better with the boo and carbon.  They pretty much look like they are made on the same press.

I had a Bamboo Viper and I thought it was a sweet shooter, fast and smooth.I still have two Savannah's and they are good shooter's also but I believe the Viper was faster.I didn't chrono them.I think the Savannah's are prettier with the zebrawood limbs and the bubinga riser's.My heavier Savannah has great looking limbs and has a better looking riser, nice looking grain.Sometimes bubinga looks kinda of plain, but bubinga makes a solid riser wood. For me I like the grip on the Savannah slightly better. The Bamboo Viper was a solid bow, well built and the carbon and bamboo made a great combo for speed and smoothness.

what the difference in the grips?  i thought it looked about the same--a solid locator style.

They do look like they are the same.I feel the Viper's grip is alittle more pronounced locator and flet like a wider grip. The grip on my latest Savannah is alittle different then my first one I bought right when they came out.It is more of a mild locator.

i like the full loactor myself.  i have shot a compound for too long i guess and the full locator is comfy.  i have thought about trying to trade the savannah for a viper, but not sure yet.  i would just like to try one.

Its a great lb, I had one that I got for a steal but I would never pay msrp for one.Very quiet and fast.I would of kept it as a backup bow but I sold it to a cousin to get him started and it is his go to bow even though he has a Widow and a Griffin.

i would think they are very good shooters, i just dont see to many of them for sale ot hear of many people talking them up.  i have tried to trade the savannah for one, but nothing yet.
for those thta have had both the savannah and viper--which would you choose between the two and why?  what did you like the best on each one?
