I fyou go to their web site and look at the stae land areas theres one area that looks like its open in the spring but in fact it is't and the other area is site specific tag. so I'll try and find an area come this spring,,JB

JB don't feel too bad about not knowing what you were applying for. The Illinois DNR website is vague at best.
JB, I have some friends that live in the county next to Dekalb. I'm waiting for them to call back with some info for you... Roy

Nice buddy!! I have to wait a week yet to get mine!! Hopefully there are some leftovers!!
Good luck Jason. Can't help you with the Ill thing, but I expect to see stories and pics here when you've filled those tags.
I would recommend purchasing a DeKalb Co. Plat map, though the farm bureau or soil and conservation district ( I think that's were they are available ). Concentrate your efforts along the Kishwaukee River basin and cold call land owners. After explaining your situation, you might get luck and find a place to hunt.
Best of luck.
Looking for the Holy Grail of turkey hunting in Dekalb county. Can anybody help out a treasure seeker?
Wish I could help...DeKalb county is kinda on the edge of suburbia...couple bigger towns but still alot of farms. Only problem is alot of it is flat and open.
Not sure how receptive landowners are.
Bout the only thing I could think of is maybe get a topo map and plat map, make a roadtrip and knock on some doors for a weekend. Maybe explain your bowhunting only and offer a trespass fee.
