i have one place to turkey hunt but i dont go there very often and i am looking for some public land for turkeys
What part of the state do you live in? I have hunted out of Pawnee city for several years and the turkey hunting is awesome. There are quite a few pieces of public land in the area. Most are small but I think this helps keep people away cause they think they are too small.
I have heard alot of good from it from a great freind on here,,SOOO hopefully he chimes in,,He's a night owl so it might not be till later on,,JB
There is a lot of public land to be hunted on. Check out the Nebraska Game & Parks web site. Turkeys are plentiful in the eastern and southeastern part of the state. If you have the means to get up along the niobrara river there are plenty of publid lands hunting with good bird numbers. Hope this helps.
Hello Jason

Are you sawing those notorious redwood logs at home tonight.Jason will keep you up at night.Good thing I am a nightowl LOL.I camped with Jason once and he about blew me away.He is a very sound sleeper too.Wish he could hear himself LOL.I better get back on topic or Jason wont show me any more hotspots.Jason knows his Turkeys and helped me out in MI.I will return the favor to you and hopefully steer you right. You got a free guided Bass fishing trip Jason if you ever get over here in my neck of the woods. All expenses paid
I hunted Pine Ridge National Rec Area.Thier is National Forest land around thier as well, near Chadron.
I wanted a Merriams and it was as close a spot as I could find to get one.Love those white fans.A turkey fanatic or 2 I hunted with recommended it.Anyway thier are some birds thier.I hunted the last 3 days of the season and got one mature bird.I had some other close calls. It was a 2 bird limit.I would assume early season would be better.
It was a good hunt and some nice country. It was challenging though. But a great experience overall.
Take a look at it.I think you would like it.It looks like a pretty good drive from Weeping Water but worth it IMO.I drove about 20 hours to go thier. Some good maps and locate good roosting areas and you should be on birds soon enough. Its been 10 years since I was thier or more. You might talk to a local wildlife biologist and see how the population is doing now.I might have some Topo maps here.I am not sure.If i do I will PM you and send you the maps if I find them.
I am sure thier are other good areas like EricW said. The area I was in was pretty good sized country with alot of elbow room.I like that!!!
Good luck!
