Title: Hunting wheels
Post by: Rusty in Fla. on February 27, 2009, 01:09:00 AM
I've been thinking about using a mountain bike for getting into the woods next year. I was wondering if anyone else does and if so how you carry your bow?

I would try a takedown and put it together at the spot.

I have a pair of ATV gun holders mounted on the handle bars.  My 66" bows stick out quite a bit on either side, so you have to watch where you are going.  Works great on closed roads though.

Apex, I've done something similar to one of my bikes in the past, when I was shooting a compound.  I put them vertical though, with one on the handlebar in line with the one on the fork, so I'd be able to ride trails.  You'd also benefit from putting toe clips on your pedals-gives you about 30% more power when climbing hills; you can still wear hunting boots, and they don't lock your feet into the pedals like the newer clipless pedals will.  Especially for turkey hunting, a bike would allow you quick access and egress from a hunting area.

That one on the bike handles looks like an accident looking for a place to happen..sorry but if you slipped or fell your bow is going to take the brunt of it.

I always buy my bows in takedown models for that reason. no too many times am I going to come up on an animal and get a shot with a pre-strung bow ready to go anyway.

They may spook, but you have time to put your  bow together and patiently get your arrowxs ready and go stalk it afterwards I think.

Otherwise you need a tandem bike with an archer in the back ready to go...Hey i think I just came up with a new sport instead of horse back shooting we could tandem bike shooting...then if we got real crazy we could have BOTH ppl shooting..Hey ma look no hands...tee hee

Oh where these threads go eh!!!!

Maybe that could be a new form of drive by shooting?
