Title: Getting back into it - Bear Montana
Post by: cjw on February 25, 2009, 11:49:00 AM
Hi all - brand new here, haven't bowhunted for 15 yrs but coming back.  I have pretty well decided on a Bear Montana Longbow #50.  Not having been around for a while any advice on arrows (aluminum vs carbon vs cedar weights etc., targets, quivers).

Also, I'll be passing through Penn (around Scranton and Reading and Virgina (around Richmond) in March any suggests on archery Shops to visit?

thx

cj ;-)

Welcome back! Got 2 Montanas a 50# and a 55#. Good solid bows you can count on.Have fun and enjoy. I have shot wood, carbon and alum. arrows from the Montanas all work, you have to decide what best for you.

All that stuff is a matter of personal preference.  Find out your draw length with that bow and see what poundage you are pulling on a bow scale, a decent archery shop should be able to help you with that.  Then find out what you want in an arrow.  (carbon-durability) each arrow material has its own characteristics.  Then post it up and somebody will be shooting the same set up and will help you get close.  Their are a ton of much more knowledable people on here that will help.  You can always use the search feature on this site for all kinds of info.
