Sure wish I could find someone that fast with good quality that doesn't cost a fortune. Pushing $900 for a deer up here!
Nice Bucks!

This one ended up being more Young than Pope.
Last hour, last day meltdown.
Nice mounts guys. TJ that early season coat sure makes for a nice looking mount! I did a euro mount on my buck this year. I'm about to run out of wall space!!
Haha Biggie, the way I look at it, when you're as old as we are getting anything young is considered a trophy.
Yeah Allan, I love the early season coats as well. This is my second one and they show up every little detail in the form. Everyone that sees them comments on that. Oh yeah and lets see your Euro mount.
Gun Wow you are making me feel better about the prices around here. As everything they have been raising the last few years. This guy is very good and pretty fast (4 months) and now is at $425. Which I think is outrageous. To freeze dry the velvet did cost another $125 on this one but I've wanted one for about 12 years since they backed up our bow season where you can kill one with velvet still on.
TJ, here are a couple pics of mine from this year. My taxidermist is up to over $550 for a shoulder mount....you get what you pay for though.

Takes over a year in California to get a mount back. Were still on the wait.

this years buck
last years buck

I hav'nt even brought mine to the taxidermist yet, he is still taking up freezer space.
You guys are making me feel like a bow hiker not a bow hunter.
I think the correct term is "Spiritwalker" There are LOTS of them on here!
Hah! Don't feel bad crandog, Idaho is a tough whitetail place!
Hogdancer, I bet your taxidermist loves you!
Heres My Mexican Mountain jumper....a Goulds Gobbler taken in Sierra Madres Mountains, Mexico. Mounted by Shane Smith, World Champion 2007

Wow joebuck that's the best treebuzzard mount I've ever seen. Detail in the head is incredible. I'm sure that was cheap.
I hate to tell you Joey but it looks like he mounted him upside down.
Yea Biggie, now if I could just take him a mule deer !
nose dive mount, Thomas.. :) :biglaugh:
That is an unusual turkey mount for sure. I kinda figgered Joey would be mounting his own by now.
Thomas...the invitation is still open!
What are ya'll talking about? Thats how i shot him, flying straight down out of the tree. Nosediving to my sweet pot call....it was awesome....just like the old Jerry Hill World Championship shot.......hey , I am looking for an old Barn door to attach him to with legs held by leather strap on rusty nail kind of look?
That is a nice mount Joey. I may have to go that route next time.
Thanks Jeff, Biggie has no respect for feathers except when they are battered. Find me an old barn door there to hang'em on.
Very nice mounts, guys! Wish I had something to show. No horns this year, just 2 big does and a pig.
I have a 3 footer. Doesn't look like it will be big enough though.
Hey joe,
Is that the real head or just a kick but replica?
Nice mounts guys! I'm still waiting on mine, should be done by June/July!
RobHood..it's the real head. This guy won the 2007 Overall World Taxidermist Championships in Reno with a turkey display. He's on the money for the money$$ :) For what i paid ,i thought he should gobble! seriously wasn't to bad..
Really nice mounts! Makes me jealous! :)
Keep 'em coming guys.
Joey, That's a beautiful mount bud! That's as nice a "dead mount" as I've ever seen....
:biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh: upside down
using the real heads and freeze drying them is the only way to go on turkeys cant beat the detail awesome mount!

My taxidermist told me they don't last as long though, is there any truth in that?
Absolutely not TJ.....as long as it's done the proper way it'll last longer than us...
Jim, is that one you killed? You must know a pretty good taxidermist ;)
Thanks Curt, I kind of figure as such. I got vibes that he just didn't want to do it or had an inventory of fake heads on hand.
Great looking cat Jim.
T.J.
Curt,no such luck.It's a customers.
Nice job on the cat. Beautiful mount.
Nice mounts guys. This year I shot right in front of mine as he walked by at 10 yards. :banghead:
Jack
Awesome mounts guys.
I had so much open wall space I couldn't decide where to hang it so I just ate it instead. Tag soup doesn't taste as bad since they did away with the adhesive backing. :jumper:
Nice art guys, keep it coming!
Hey Joey, Shane Smith is our Buddy and is just down the road. He has a lot of Turkey mounts at Dads Store.....AWESOME Cat JimB........
some pics of a mount i just got back last week, my taxidermist did an outstanding job, really you need to see it up close to appreciate the detail. (http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/ww257/boonetrad/DSCN0508.jpg) (http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/ww257/boonetrad/DSCN0512.jpg)
Fellas, just a reminder...let's keep this thread trad bowkills...that's what this site is all about....Thanx guys
The puma is cool!!!!
Wow what a buck Daniel. Is that an Illinois kill and did you kill him with your Whisperstik?
Boone that is a dandy. I can almost see steam coming out his nose! Who did the mount?
Gene and I just got two of our November bucks back from the taxidermist today. I don't have any photos but they came out great. Tony Grillo, Seymour, IN did an outstanding job. Absolutely excellent. I'll see if we can get a couple pix posted. Taxidermy quality has improved big-time in recent years. Nice work guys. bw
My TradGang fall bear.

Excuse the mess we are laying tile tomorrow.
mike dowell of buck wild taxidermy did that mount, he does awesome work, that mount won him a couple of first place ribbons at a show he went to, he has done 5-6 mounts for my family and they have all turned out very good. this was my first pedestal mount and it's sweet.
this is the 2nd boar mount i've ever done. it was for a good mate i was hunting with last year. i'd show mine, which was the 1st boar i mounted, but it didn't turn as good as i'd hoped. lessons learnt were applied to this one.

Hey Clint, you did that, great job it looks awesome !!
My favorite javelina hunt to date and my first mount I have ever had done...

Here is a couple of pics of my 2008 velvet 8pt. I have never seen a buck in full velvet in archery season before and when he walked out I knew he was going to get an arrow slung at him. I shot him on opening day (9/27/08) in McMullen County, Tx with my Sarrels recurve: 48#@29" using a Vapor 2000 arrow and GK 150gr BH.

Gorgeous!
Nothing like an early season cape to work with
Anymore 08 mounts?
I got my javie back but still haven't figured out how to post pic's.
doug77
Well, this is another one,not taken by me and not taken in 2008 but was mounted in 2008.Kodiak Island and taken with a Silvertip. (http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a140/jbrandenburg/PatsBear018.jpg)
Wow Jim those are some amazing mounts!! Is that your handy work? Simply amazing!!
How's that Shrew treating you? Have any luck with it last fall?
Thanks Tim.Yeah, that's how I pay the bills.
The Shrew is doing good but it was a tough hunting season this past Fall.I was too busy to get out much though I did miss an antelope with the Shrew and definitely no fault of the bow. After that, game movement got really weird and there just wasn't much to go after. Something drastic has happened to our mule deer population where I hunt and we aren't sure if it was an early Fall storm,a freak migration, lions or what but they are almost all gone.
I need to look for a new spot for this Fall, though antelope may be OK still.I'm itching to break in that bow.

JimB, That sounds awesome buddy. I will be in Wyoming at the end of September on an Antelope hunt so hopefully I can put one down with one of my Shrews as well. Good luck and I look forward to pictures.

Sorry, I had problems posting all the photos on one entry. Still learning.
Very cool are all those from 2008 Colorado? Tell us about the caribou.
Great job on the Puma, really neat mount!!!
Sorry not all from 2008. Mountain Caribou from BC. He would make the book, but I never entered him. They do not migrate, so like hunting elk. Find them and put on the stalk. The bear is from BC also - a Grizzley. Moose also from BC. Lion from Colo. and javelina Texas.
Nice mounts. Those are some cool mounts.Would you like a bow cadie. :biglaugh:
There are some great mounts on here. I really enjoy looking at them all.
These are my brother's and my deer mounts. My brother's (on the right) is from the 2008 season, I killed mine in 2006. They are both from Wisconsin, and killed about a mile or so from each other.

Very nice Highplains. I didn't see any deer like those when I was in CO on my elk hunt last year. Hehe.
highplains looks like buffalo county bucks to me nice cills love the arrows on the wall behind the mounts looks really sharp!
Thanks TJ and Jesse. Those deer are from the SW part of the state. Got lucky and made a good friend in the area, a farmer who knew all the folks around. Met some nice people and gained hunting permission on a handshake. Paid off nicely and we had a ton of fun!
its nice to hear that handshake agreements are still around congrats on the two nice bucks and the friends you made see alot of nice bucks come thru the taxidermy doors from that area
Just picked him up yesterday. (http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq354/jandy2225/ericbuck002.jpg)

Good stuff guys, nice revisiting this thread... :campfire:
Terry,
wouldnt it be great to mount the back-half of that deer on the other side of the wall? :biglaugh:
just kidding, great mounts!
Yeah Axel....that would be cool huh?
Especially if there was a walk through room to get to my office where the butt would be seen 1st.
Here's my best five. All with trad bows. Three of them with osage selfbows I made. I work part-time at Big River Taxidermy in Lansing,Ia, so I get to work on my own deer. Last years buck I killed the second week of Nov and had on the wall right after Xmas. There's a bunch of great looking mounts on this post fella's!! (http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t53/kendalltechau/100_1815.jpg)
Kendall, those are some awesome mounts...great work! the top right looks like a mckenzie form but the others lok like joe meders???? i really like the one in the center with the aggressive look.
Terry, that Angora looks good, wish I would have known they looked that good, I threw 2 of them away ! :knothead:
Thomas...it was the 1st morning of a TX Sweat Hunt....there were 30 of them in that herd and all but 3 had already walked right by me...one of the 3 was the biggest, and I wasn't going to shoot any of them but the biggest...it was all or nothing. One of the little ones that had walked by me winded me and started spitting... the 3 facing me turned to leave and I made one of my most memorable shots.
Turned out to be the biggest one I saw all week.
Tom Phillips got one of the others while I was field dressing mine....great memories from that mount, and yes, it does look good, Curt mounted it so what do you expect ;) ....thanks.
Thanx for the compliments "T" and "T" ...a lot of work
Solana bucks are next!!!!
That is a cool rack of used arrows Terry!! I like it as much as the mounts.
Great to hear Curt.....same pose only reversed...Book Mount Solana 10 pointers to go along with my Book Mount hogs (one at Ray's and one from Cohutta)
Mike....those are some of my most memorable arrows, and it is nice to pull one off and relive the hunt as well.
Pete, the upper and lower right are Mckenzie forms. The center is a Joe Medar and the other two are Buckeye forms. Thanks, good eye. Kendall
I wouldn't know a kenzie from a medar from a buckeye, but I know good BUCKS when I see them....
Congrats!...and nice work!

Cool Elk Mount Randy...is that the rest of the hide underneath your mout?
Good stuff fellas! Kinda funny, my taxidermist just called and said my Buck would be done next weekend, I came on here and this thread was up top! Awesome!
Here is one . I didn't kill him in 08' but I did re-mount him in 08' I killed him in 1985. My best whitetail to date. I have re-done the mount 4-5 times over the years.
