Today was our first (but hopefully not our last) GORH (Great Ohio Rabbit Hunt). It was completely and utterly outstanding.
Early on, we did a bit of target practice and took off en mass after the bunnies. I'm not sure how many of us were in that early morning group (I'm guessing 30? 40?) but I hear we had 92 total throughout the day. We saw and had shots at several rabbits throughout the morning and with all of the guys in the field and all the arrows flying, one hunter actually connected.
When we returned, we did some more target practice and chatted and so forth. Lunch was outstanding – mostly wild meat and so forth. I had some stew, chili, suspicious sausages and the like. I'm not sure what I ate, but it was pretty good.
After, we went out for the clout shoot – guys shot across a frozen pond at a tiny raccoon target (they tell me that's what it was, but it was way too far away to be sure).
After that, we moved on to the iron bunny – a great big iron rabbit, with a small heart shape cut out. A good shot (which I failed to make) hit straw and a bad one ended with a clang and a broken arrow. At the end of the day, the iron bunnie's straw bales were festooned with the shattered remains of our missed shots. Next was the William Tell shoot. We had a mannequin with an apple on it's head. In addition to a surprising number of good shots, there were quite a few potentially disastrous misses.
After that, we moved on to archery skeet. A modified trap thrower launched aerial targets at which we launched swarms of arrows. There were a surprising number of hits here as well – including one by Dylan.
Next, we had a big trad raffle and it was back out to the bunny fields. We had a little smaller group this time and still managed to kick up quite a few rabbits – one of which I took. Rainy, windy sleet stuff pushed us back to the cabin for more outstanding food.

I'm ready to go again.
Nice pictures Jim,
It was good to meet, hunt and shoot with you. We had fun. We will have to do it again.
I chatted with Dylan about his Kodiak Magnum, but never connected with "Dad". I had to leave early so I missed the evening hunt. Well worth a 2 hr drive each way.
Good to finally meet Oldskool, and Raven and so many others as well.
Well done by Jim and the rest of the crew.
Thank you so much Greg and family for hosting this event.
Looks like it was a success. Congrats and thanks for sharing.
Jim, Did you kill that bunny with your Hill? Sounds like it was a blast.
Oldskool - absolutely! I had a great time hunting and chatting with you.
4runr - sorry I missed you!
Irish Archer - I did. The first shot mmmmissed by a whisker (literally). My first arrow landed close enough to the rabbit's nose that he could have licked it without moving his head but the second was a complete passthrough w/ an Ace Hex Head.
Jim, we forgot to mention that we shoot our share of stumps.
that should say shot.I type with a studder
That looks like fun
Stumps and cow flops - they stood no chance at all :-D
Hope we can get some more pictures posted here. I believe some guys took as many as 400 pictures! I took a camera but ended up too busy with the drawings and shirt sales.
Boy, talk about some prizes, I thought the guys really came through!
I'm gonna' have to get that scheduled for next year. Glad you all had a good time.
We started here.

Someone said we looked like we were at a Sturgess rally.

This is Oldskools best friend Brake who was runnin em everywhere. Notice the tip of his tail.

Jon DeJean got this one Saturday and another Sunday

Way over on the other side of the pond is a racoon target these guys are shootin at. We backed em up even farther for the shoot off which jamie Miller won by a couple inches. I gotta give Brian Patterson credit here even though he came in a close second. He put one right next to the rings and a few more right around the target.

Here's a group waitin on Brake to work his magic around a brushpile.

Here is Miss Jenna next to a nice rub on a cedar we found amidst the brush.

There we go - nice pictures!
Here is Harvey Griffith with his bunny he killed on Sunday.

Here's Oldskool and Brake.
The fellas were warming up and I threw a couple bills in theblock for em to shoot at. Pete Miller got one of em. There is another stickin out in the top left corner which was eventually shot. Pete was a machine shooting his warf. He won the William Tell shoot.

Oldschool,
Thanks or bringing Brake even if I did miss the rabbits he hunted up for me!
It was a fantastic hunt and I'll be there again next time for sure.
Charlie
Had a GREAT TIME on saterday!! It was nice to put faces with names. Met some real nice people and ate some of the best food ever. It was fun watching the rabbits run the "Gauntlet" of bowhunters and arrows. :scared: I stayed back with "TwoSteps" thinking we would get a shot at a rabbit coming back to hide. We never got a shot off. :bigsmyl: But was glad Oldskool put the smackdown on the "Ironbunny" he came in first and has only been shooting a Tradbow for less than a year.
Can't wait for the next one!! Hope to hookup with some of the guys I met to just shoot and have fun!
Thanks for a GREAT TIME!!!!
Raven >>>>------->
Hey Raven,
We really liked that "Everyone Sign The T-shirt" idea! There is a very good chance that is going to happen next time and be used for a raffle item.
And like you said, it was nice to get to put faces with names and get to meet some of the people we see on the Internet every day. Looking forward to seeing you at some of the shoots this summer!
Goose
Thanks Goose! Glad we got to meet and we will have to get togeather and do some shooting/fishing, I live on a 250+ acre lake with lots of fish. I was glad to get everyone to sign my shirt, it will make a great "keepsake". Your right one would make a great raffle item!
The primitive arrow I won durring the raffle found a nice home on my wall next too a very special bow a good friend made for me.
To bad we can't do this every year.
Raven >>>>-------->
I am having troubles uploading my pics to photobucket, but got this one to load.
Just a pic of some of the bionic bunny carnage.

I enjoyed every minute of everything. GORH will proly be the highlight of 2009 for me. Sure is a special event. You could say I'm a GORHaholic. Wish it was yearly. I was thinkin today...if you miss one thats 4 long years without a GORH. Man that would SUCK!
Raven -
I'm such an idiot. I think I signed your shirt DrHackenbush, which is my screen name on some other (computer geekery) sites rather than GingivitisKahn.
Doh! If you get any geeky computer shirts that you want me to sign, I'll sign them GingivitisKahn to balance things out.
:-p
Your welcome Charlie. Brake probably had a better time than we did. And I had such a good time I can't stop grinning.ah the memories we have!
Someone at GORH told me about the Wyandot Archers.
Anyone got an idea who that was?
Also, are there any GOHR shirts hanging around out there still?
-Charlie
Charlie, Get hold of GOOSE, he is putting in another order soon
verry nice, the rest of every one ealse can only wish we wear their. great pic and story. thanks!! :bigsmyl:   :clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
Crap, the second order for shirts went in this morning. I thought about holding off for a day, but some of the guys that paid for them on Saturday are already looking for them!
I had a great time and it was nice to put a lot of faces to names. A great big Thank You to all who put this together and especialy Greg and Ellen for putting up with us all!2011 sure seems like a long way off!
Denny
Too long, I agree! It was great to meet some guys around my area though. And one of them has a rabbit dog!
-Charlie
Yep, ya did sign my shirt with "Drhackenbush" :scared:
Oldskool, I tried to call ya yesterday but your phone said it was off. Hope you all had a good time on Sunday! Looks like you guys shot a couple more rabbits.
I went out last night to get some wood for the woodstove and wouldn't you know it, there sat a rabbit eating birdseed outside the back door. :help: They just love to tease me...
Raven >>>>------->
Hey Raven, too bad you couldn't make it Sunday. We really got in to the rabbits. Brake was runin his little legs off. I think I heard someone say we ended up with 5 rabbits for the weekend.
Buck_Hunter wants to get together and hunt and shoot. Is Saturday the last day of season?
One more hunt would be nice.

Who's the guy with the 2 yellows and the one black, with the yellow and black crest??? How many arrows did you bring????? :saywhat:
He brought most of them for use to use so we didn't have to break ours.
Keith,
Yea, those are almost all my arrows. I can see a few in the pic that arent.
I took a bunch of my old arrows for others to bust up. Thought we would get better participation that way. I was right LOL.
Sorry you couldnt make it this time. Dont think I have seen you since Denton Hill about 6 or 7 years ago.
Try to mark Feb 2011 on the calender. I am sure we are going to do it all over again.
BP
Oh yea, how bout that meatball recipe, Oldskool.
BP
Hey brian, Tahnks for bringing all the arrows. It was fun destroying them. :biglaugh: Hey i had an arrow question for you. Waht type of machine do you use for cresting. Your lines looked perfect. Is that a different type of machine that helps or just hours of straightening? It was fun shooting with you. I still think you and i should have rocked that rabbit before jason got it. Good shooting. Well have a good evening and happy hunting.
Irish AKA THE IRISHMAN! :)
Dang it I knew I should have come. I was up late (3AM) Friday and wanted to be up there and hunt. The wife was worried about the storm that they said was going to be bad around here that wasn't. I slept in and never got myself in gear to come...wish I had. Looks like a great time.
Thats 2 I have missed since my first. I had a blast though we didn't take any rabbits that time. Next time I'm gonna make it happen!
Brian, sent you a pm
Jason, what sux is if you miss a GORH that's 4 years without one...man that's a long time.
Good to hear you guys had a good time on Sunday! :readit: :D

Great video and good shooting Oldskool! We'll have to get out shooting again soon. Suprised to see my ugly mug in the video. they must of needed to bring it down a notch!
-Charlie
Between your mug and my hillbilly accent there going to lose ratings
Tom,
Thanks for posting the video. I added it to the GORH website. I have some other video that Ed Jarvis took but I have no way of uploading it. When I had my PC built I wasnt thinking video. Mind if I send it to you and if you post it I can take it from there?
Very cool video - even w/ buckeye_hunter and oldskool. :bigsmyl:
That $1 only cost me about $25. I was shooting for the top left one and would miss and hit the rocks behind.lol
Hazmat
Hazmat, I lost a couple carbons as well. They're only arrows man, we can make more.
