Title: Afternoon pig hunt

Well,
Me and NorthernCaliforniaHunter are going to Lake Sonoma today to see if NCH's arrow tuning trial and tribulations are going to pay off!  :p  
We are after the elusive and legendary "Moby Pig"...or any other pig for that matter...Juan got a trail cam pic of Moby Pig on a property a couple of miles, ridges and valleys over from the lake and one of our buddies saw him at the Lake the other day. Confirmed on the photograph. These pigs have a large territory it seems. Moby Pig is a large white boar with long hair and a razor back.  :scared:  
Anyway...take off time is in about 1/2 hour or so. We should get started on the hunt in about an hour and a half. Evenings are the best and most productive up there and the weather is perfect for pig hunting. Our arrows are shooting great and our broadheads are scary sharp. Wish us luck. Now I gotta find the wife's camera so I can take some pics...   ;)

We're back. Saw lots of sign (and probably should have set up on it  :readit:  
It is public land and right now, for the month of February, shotgun hunters are allowed as well. The rest of the time it's archery only.
 
We had good intelligence from another bowhunter as to where to go. So we followed his intructions to the letter. Turns out our friend is part mountain goat.  :saywhat:  

We got in to some great pig sign...even smelled the bugga's a couple of times...but no luck. I have some pictures of the area I'll post later, but if you've seen the Tejon hunt thread and those pictures you have the lay of the land. If it ain't down, it's up.

We got back to the truck with new insights for the next hunt (don't hike further than you have to and set up on the wallows when you find them).
 
Now, this trip was not a waste of time at all. It's better being out there hunting than sitting at home wondering. On the way home we stopped at a local watering hole in the area and met some new friends. We ended up trading them coyote hunting on land Juan has access to that has a coyote problem for hog hunting on land with a hog problem that they have access to. It's all good.  :bigsmyl:

:D  Well, nothin' in the game bag but a heck of a lot of fun. We were spared the downpour and made it out before we got drenched.
I am so sore this morning I'm ashamed to admit it    :pray:

Drove by there this week on my way to Hillside Ranch; like you we saw lots of sign and a lot of animals too; just did not have any good shot opportunities.
