Title: New Widow
Post by: Steel on February 21, 2009, 12:38:00 PM
Well to my suprise I received a UPS tracking number this week from Black Widow that my new 56" 47lb@27" PSA X had shipped a few weeks earier than expected. Yesterday when I returned home from I ripped into the package and was very suprised how beautiful the custom Graybark/crossgrain  limbs bow really is. I almost ordered a PSA X in Zebra wood and then did some thinking that I am a Hunter and graybark would be the best camo for the woods so ordered the custom graybark. I thought I had gave up looks for camo but boy was I wrong this bow is sharp looking my pictures suck and really don't do the bow any justice. Anyway looks are fine but I really wanted to see how the bow shot so I put it all togather, set brace high, nocking point all up and rushed outside to do some shooting. First thing that really surpised me is the fact this bow is very, very quiet and I will be honest I didn't think the bow would be this quiet from BW feedback I have read on this forum. This is one of the top 3 quietest recurves I have ever shot or owned period.I did not shoot the bow through the Chrony it was to poor evening light to get a good reading but the bow has some zip to it for sure using a 500gr arrow. Most important to me I was killing the bullseye every arrow right from the start so the bow is very easy to shoot with accuracy. I am going to do some more shooting today at longer ranges but for now I can say that this is one bow That has not disappointed me it in fact it is a better shooting/looking bow than I was expecting

Mooseman, I ordered the bow first part of Jan this year I beleive. At the time BW said 7-9 weeks I know that depends if they have to order wood and such for the bow so I was aiming for about 8 weeks. I beleive mine took about 5 to 6 weeks which is OK I am trying not to be mad it came early  :)  .

It is always a nice surprise when a bow comes a little early.  Time slows down when you are waiting for a bow  :)   Congrats.  I like it...Mike

Yep bamboo in the riser and no red glass. The limb cores on this bow are bamboo so using it in the riser helped to tie it all togather. There are so many choices you have from woods to glass color/phenolic or lack of it is truely hard to pick a combo. Once you make a pick you always second guess yourself I am sure my second choice Zebra wood PSA-X no red glass in the riser would have been real eye candy also. I have a 56" Black Swan TD hybrid zebra wood riser on order at this time hopefully it will be here soon also and am looking forward to trying it out also. My wife said no more bows for a few months I am haveing a hard time accepting that but then again I never signed anything that stated I would agree to that   ;)

Well I shot the New PSA alot yesterday and some more this morning it is a very good shooting bow. I still can't get over how quiet the bow is for a recurve. Overall it's not as quiet as my Shrew longbows which sound like a mouse fart, but I haven't had a recurve this quiet for a few years and really haven't tried anything to make it quieter yet. I set the brace height at 8.5" and am shooting 500gr and 550gr carbon arrows with laser straight looking arrow flight.I shoot about 5 days a week year around so when shooting this new PSA last few days I just draw, aim and hit the bullseye like it's my old trusty bow I have had for years. Easy bow for me to shoot no learning curve or tricks to this one my arrow groups are real tight at 20-25 yards. I went for as stroll through the woods yesterday evening I can tell you the graybark is great camo right now with everything dead and gray looking the bow disappeared when leaned up next a tree. I hate to tell you guys this PSA is a hunting bow so it will be carried through brush thickets, pulled up and down on a rope to a tree stand, heck I might even use it as a pry bar if need to flip over a 300lb hog         LOL. Well I will try to be easy on it but stuff happens in woods that doesn't happen on the range. The 56" bow is also very nice I don't have to worry much about finger pinch or stacking since I have a 27" draw and the short bow has no accuracy issues and is super nice to carry and shoot.

Sweet looking widow, don't set it down in the woods as it could get lost real easy with that color combo.

The crossgrain limbs really blend well as you can see from my picture today. Owlbait, BW should use my custom graybark PSA as a stud to spawn many more little custom graybark bows    :)

Have to agree. Best looking Graybark to date. Widow's are terrific bows. I have not been without one since 94.
