Title: Morrison
Post by: JCJ on February 16, 2009, 07:57:00 PM
I traded for this Morrison today. It is 62" and 45 @30". Built in 2003. Can anybody tell me what model it is and what the range for brace height is? Thanks!

I would guess it to be the "take down", and the best source of info on the brace height would be Bob. See if he has it listed on his website, and if he doesn't, tug his sleeve once.

He is a good natured fellow, and will be able to help. You certainly got a splendid representative of the bowyer's craft.

Good one! I was curious to know if it was a Shawnee or a Cheyenne.

I am no expert, but I believe he called it a Take Down before he called it a Cheyenne. Then came the Shawnee.

Killy has it, it is the takedown, pretty much the same as the Cheyenne. I have my brace set at 6 3/4". If I remember right Bob's spec for that bow is 6 3/4 to 6 1/4. Again, as Killy said, drop Bob a line and he will gladly help you. Great bowyer and gent in my book !

Depending on which riser it is(A or B) it is either 6.5-7" or 6.75-7.25"

That riser will also use the newer Cheyenne limbs.

Dave is correct the Takedown model was the predecessor to the Cheyene and it will take the newer Cheyenne limbs.

I spent a good part of the evening shooting the bow. I draw the bow 31-1/2" and it is 50# at my draw. Shooting 70-75 spine full length tapered cedars with 190 gr. field tips for 600 gr. total weight. I was pretty impressed with the quickness of the bow with a 12 gpp arrow. However, I was most impressed with the smoothness of the draw. Absolutely no stack at my long draw. Overall it's a real nice shooting bow and also really attractive.

Beauty. I think Bob's Osage ages better than anyones for some reason. What's the flair wood? Cocobola?

Cocobola flare and limb wedges. Yes the patina the Osage takes on with exposure to sunlight and yellowing of finish is very elegant. I build split-cane fly rods and as they age and the spar varnish starts to yellow they too take on this look.
