Bulding a 64" board bow from a red oak plank. I have it to the point where I've braced it at 4" and show a draw weight of 35# at 20".
I am striving for 50-55# at 28".
Do I start to finish sand and clean up the bow now or what is the recommended next step.
Thanx....
I like to use 80 grit sanding belts a little at a time till i hit my target weight

Cabinet scraper is your ticket. Take equal strokes of both limbs slowly and evenly working them down and checking weight frequently. Most common guff at this point is thinning out the last 1/3 of the limbs too much.
How is the tiller at 20"? If it is OK and you have pulled it that far already you can brace it to a normal brace height. You need to be sure it will draw to the full draw and both limbs are bending evenly and together before finish sanding. If your bow isn't tillered properly, the draw weight doesn't matter.
Tiller it out and if it come in under weight I'm sure you have a kid or can find one that would love it.
