Today, the 15th, is the 108th year since the death of Maurice Thompson. He died leaving a manuscript titled "Toxophilus in Arcadia," a collection of nature essays with the English long bow.
In memory of Maurice I'm offering a special on my compiled and edited "Toxophilus in Arcadia" through the 28th of February. The price during this period is $10 plus $4 s&h. Go to the Sponsor's Classifieds for detail.
The Title Page, Table of Contents and Preface in the old Master's own hand.

It is a great book--thanks to Cliff for reprinting it and calling attention to it.
I'll be sending in an order Tuesday, Cliff. Witchery of Archery is one of my all time favorites so I'm sure I'll enjoy this one also.
i ordered one also...didn't know about this one til i read a review from Killdeer about it on another thread here. Thanks! :)
For those who haven't read this book: Why haven't you read this book? It is like having Maurice Thompson come back to life for a spell to complete his final life's work. Too good to be true!
Thanks for all the orders. Hope you enjoy old Maurice's stuff. Since I posted this special, I recieved a call from an old friend inviting me to SC for hogs and fishes.
All orders received by today will be posted tomorrow. Any received tomorrow will be posted after my return week after next.
Since I'll be off enjoying the company of old friends and chasing hogs and catching fishes, I will extend this special through the 7th of March to share my good fortune. :)
Eat your heart out Steve. :)

Kudos to you Sir for your contributions to archery literature and for running this little special sale.
I spoke with your old classmate and passsed along your greetings. Mr. Hamilton was glad to "hear" from you. He inquired of your where-abouts and returned a kind greeting.
Have a great trip with the sticks and strings, both the arrow and the hook kind!
Just finished it...kind of a surprise ending!
Thoroughly enjoyed it and plan to reread it soon. Note: pages 70 and 71 are transposed. Does this make it a collectors item? :bigsmyl:
Killdeer
Cliff,
Are you heading back to THE swamp? Wish I could join you there, and hope you have a great hunt! Please tell everyone "Hi" for me if you think of it.
If we order more than one copy, do you want $4 shipping for each, or does combining them work from a money standpoint?
I look forward to seeing the work you've done for all of us.
Have a great time and a wonderful hunt!
Daryl
I don't know about any collector's value, but you are correct. I just left it in. By the time it finally came off the press I had no mo' energy left to do much about it. :)
Maurice published hundreds of essays and articles and it's very difficult to determine just what was true. He admitted his articles were many times a composite of several adventures. Most of his nature essays had a certain amount of fact or truth, but holding his stuff to exacting standards is futile.
He did write humor and satire and the last chapter should be taken in that context. I thought about leaving it out but find it an interesting read if not taken literally. But, I suspect old Maurice might have crawled under a neighors fence if a bevy of birds tempted him too much. :)
