Looking for good read??? marco :wavey: :D any new books on bowhunting , archery etc . adding to my library :)
A MAN MADE OF ELK has become one of my favorites!
Shoot straight, Shinken
My copy of "One with the Wilderness", by Mike Mitten, arrived a couple days ago...it was a gift from my wife. Got it tonight.
A good read????...a MUST read!!!!
One with the Wilderness - Mike Mitten (Herdbull)
My Neck of the Woods - Bryce Lambley (Wary Buck)
These are both excellent reads, from Trad Gang members....
Just got Mike Mitten's (Herd Bull) new book; "One With The Wilderness", today. I've made it through a couple of chapters and it is going to be a great read. Also, ordered Bryce Lambley's (Wary Buck) new book, "My Neck of The Woods". I know it will be great as well. Mike's book I ordered off of Brothers of the Bow website (sponser). Bryce's book I ordered direct from him.
Hey Mark, how ya been buddy? I have not read Mittens book yet, but it's on my list. However I HAVE read "My neck of the woods" and it is good! Bryce knows what he is doing, and he does it for all the right reasons. He's been knocking down some BIG deer lately!
Marco, you can also try some good "old" bowhunting books. "Bucks and Bows" by Walter Perry...1953. "Archery: From Golds To Big Game"
Keith Schuyler. "Bowhunting For Deer" HR Dutch Wambold. "Modern Bowhunting" Hiram Grogan..1958.
If you don't have any Don Thomas books I highly recommend them. Try:
Longbows in the Far North
Lonbow Country
Another great, and I mean great, is "Fred Bear's Field Notes".
Another classic is "Bows on the Little Delta" by Glenn St. Charles.
Mike Mitten book..Very good..Looking forward to his next one..
"One with the Wilderness" is one of the best books I've read in quite awhile.
Don Thomas' writing is like a good painting, when you read it, you see it. Nobody I have read captures the essence of the hunt quite like Don. Hemingway came close.
Ditto on Don Thomas...Im open for any ...I have the full blown flu and my sister is going to barnes a noble for me, :) Happy Valentines...yeah!!!
One with the Wilderness by Mike Mitten is one I just got. A good read!
Bows,Swamps,Whitetails by Tim Lewis is a good one. About deer and hog hunting in Florida. I am reading it for the second time.
Mike
"Born to the Bow" by Bill Baker, Australia's greatest bowhunter.
MR James' "45 Unforgetable Bowhunters".
Timeless Bowhunting by Roy S. Marlow. Great read and he makes a lot of sense.
I am starting to chew on "Toxophilus in Arcadia" by Maurice Thompson. Cliff Huntington (Liquid Amber) has compiled unpublished essays into some of the most enjoyable reading I have had in some time.
Maurice talks of the same things that I marvel at today, and the woods and swamps come alive with sound, sight and smell. A captivating glimpse into woods life in the middle 1800s, I enjoy reading both the adventures and Maurice's thoughts concerning his own activities and others' interpretations as they join him in his travels.
As always, I am impressed by the skillful writing, and the crafting of words that infused even casual conversation of the day. It reflects a wide base of knowledge, and an elevation of language that transcends the mere conveying of facts, which sadly, seems the trend today.
(Just seems thoughtier, is all. ;) )
Whether you are a reveler in words or action, though, you will get a thrill walking beside our old friend as he shares the feel of a stout bow, the thump of the string, and the whizzing flight of a hopeful arrow.
Killdeer
And NOW they are on sale... :banghead:
Killdeer :biglaugh:
Right under my nose, and I know Cliff... :) thanks Killie...first day with no fever, this flu sinks...Marco#78
Killie...And where might one find this "Toxophilus in Arcadia". I agree, I much prefere reading older writings archery or otherwise.
Mike
Never mind I found it.
Tim Lewis , the author of Bows Swamps and Whitetails is a good friend and the piebald deer on the cover pic, I killed a couple years after the photo was taken.
"One With The Wilderness" GREAT BOOK!!!
Between Christmas and my birthday, I got
* 'A Man Made of Elk' - ok but not great, IMO
* 'Fred Bear's Field Notes' - outstanding and
* 'The Traditional Bowhunters Handbook' - haven't started yet but looks to be loaded with great stuff.
Also working on 'The Witchery of Archery' - really good but all of the ... odd target choices are distracting to me.
"One with The wilderness" It will inspire you with hunting and nature.
