I will be ordering my Guillie suit today ( Rancho Safari Longcoat with booney hood, and face mask), and was wondering if there are tips or tricks you do to shoot with the hood and the facemask on  There seems to be alot hanging down wheren it might be a little distracting, and how do you reach your anchor with the facemask on?
I use a Spand-o-Flage mask. Don't be afraid to trim the hood and bow arm. I also use a full lenght ( wrist to arm pit )arm guard. Guillies are a ball!!!
Here is how I modified mine.

I don't use the face mask that came with the suit. I either paint my face or use a more tight fitting face mask like doowop mentioned.
Have fun! Ghillies are a blast!

BMN--Good info there! Thanks!

Do you guys think the Long Coat is the way to go??? Cabela's has a top and bottom for about 160 bucks???

Jerry is running a great deal right now. I heard nothin but good things about them.
This is from a certified LE Sniper with experience using a Ghillie Suit, good luck shooting a bow with a Ghillie Suit on...
I have the same Rancho Safari suit, and love it! I trimmed the strips that hung down in my face a wee bit, from the hat brim. I just trimmed a little, shot, trimmed more. Did the same on the bow arm, and left chest, just in case! Probably could trim a few more off the bow arm.
ND, ya musta been quite the sniper, using your bow!!!!!!!
Be sure to taylor your suit to they way you hunt and shoot. Elastic inserts work good on baggy arms
I use face paint and hood, but I trimed my hood so it wouldnt interfeer (spl?) with my string at draw another thinhg to think about is the chest area if you shoot a long (65"+) bow especially from a sitting position.......thats all ive run into with mine...
Larry,
ND, Seems that alot of people wear them and are successful with them on. Care to eloberate what you mean??
The long suit is the way to go. I roll mine up with everything inside and secure it with small bungee straps. Put it on when you get to your stand site. Watch the wind and don't fall asleep.
I shoot with mine just fine.

What?you don't drive around in it or go for coffee?come on!
WE have one of the Cabelas outfits and the pants are a pain in the @#$%. Find I never use them.
I'm going with a Long coat style that will rollup and go on or in my pack. Want too use it running and gunning for elk this year in Idaho.
They are easy to shoot with if you practice and modify the suit for clearance.

I just got mine out last weekend and did some shooting to get it fine tuned for Turkey season. Like mentioned above trim the hangey downs off the front of the hat brim and inside of the bow arm. I shoot with a bit of an open stance and don't have any problems shooting with the Gillie on. can't wait to go chase some Turkeys.
I have the long shaggie coat and mine has two straps built into it for rolling it up and a couple of "D" rings and a carry stap.
The Rancho Safari have alot of thought put into them and are the most user friendly I have seen.
Pat
Thanks for your input guys! Lots of great info
I bought the ghillie light from cabelas. Its like coveralls. I`m thinking of going below the waist maybe to the kness and cutting it off.Haven`t tried it yet but I did hang it in the edge of the yard to air out and couln`t believe how well it blends.RC
I also use an armgaurd that goes from wrist to armpit. And I trimmed the bow arm, makes it easier to get the armguard on.
Don't have a problem with the face mask at all. It is adjustable, fits well and is comfortable.
Biggest problem is the hood. I've been thinking about cutting the hood from the suit and attaching it to the facemask somehow.

I have the light weight two piece leafy suit from Cabela's. The pants can be a pain depending on your footwear. I would recommend the Rancho Safari longcoat but I would get the lighterweight bowhunter version if still available. It is just too hot in Texas for the heavier version. As for the negative comments from the sniper, if you trim the suit properly shooting with traditional archery equipment should not be a problem. If you do not practice and trim as needed shame on you. :archer:

I agree with wingnut, I have a two piece suit very similar to the one Cabelas sells, the strings on the pants catch/tangle/hang-up/ etc.. on EVERYTHING! Twigs, branches, vines get caught between the legs and make walking very difficult, especially walking quietly.
Stick with the long coat!
Sometimes I will carry the pants to my blind and put them on there if I have time, but walking/stalking in them is a pain!
That being said, mine isn't a burlap suit, it is made of very small synthetic string material, the burlap type may not catch on everything as bad.
I'll try to post a pic.

Me and tarponut, last day of hunting season this year
miles tactical/www.theghilliesuits.com has a bowhunter version that is pre-trimmed in the bow arm and chest area to prevent bow string contact.
I didn't buy that version, but I had my wife standing by in the backyard with scissors! As I drew and shot, she would walk up and snip away any offending strings! So far no problem with bow string contact with the suit since the trimming sessions, and I shot sitting/kneeling/and standing to make sure she got it all.
I also use a side quiver (GFA, and Great Northern Sidekick), the strap across my chest also keeps the ghillie strings pressed in close to my chest and out of the bow strings way.
Now I need to trim the legs below the ankles so walking will be easier.

I wonder if Rod over at Safari-Tuff has made any headway on his build it yourself kit he talked about a few months back.

A long time ago when Ghillie suits first came on the market my friends got them 4 people in all. They were really nice but made out of burlap strips.Which when it rained and they got wet the weighted about 30 plus pounds.
I made my own out of 1"mess fishing net .Made long coat.Went to a sporting goods store that had camo see througth netting for blinds.Got different kinds, cut them into strips tie'd it onto each mess. Mine weighted 3 pounds wet fit into a cut off camo pants leg.And I can replace them when they need replaced.
I found out you must where a long arm guard, you must cut down your bow arm and chest. And unto you refine your ghillie take a pair of scissors along hunting with you.And shoot useing it all you can. They don't go along with bow strings. There are great I've killed 14 bucks off the ground with mine and my selfbow and they work great in trees exspess'ly in ceaders. When the wind blows it can't be beat in the corn or grown up hay fields.I've shot 3 bucks in there beds in the wind in the corn. You may not beleive me but 2 times I've even gotton so close I've touched doe's with my bow.And this isn't even talking about the turkeys. And about 10 years ago I made one out of ASAT strips it's killer. It's gotton so go for the last 5 years I only hunt off the ground now.

:notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: Thats all I have to say! WOW...Thats is absolutly FANTASTIC!!!!!
IMO the shortcoat is all you need. It hangs mid thigh and doesn't catch as much as the longcoat will.
I exchanged email with Rod yesterday about the kits he was trying to come up with. He hasn't made much progress.
I'm looking hard at this one:

That does look like a great on Mike
Researched this for a couple years to find something to replace the smelly burlap one I made 10 years ago (STILL stinks!). Here is what I finally chose:

Lots of good info on the site, as well...
Also found a nice review of several ghillies at: http://www.bestghilliesuits.com/reviewlightweight-ghillie-suit/
Might have picked the lightweight Rancho Safari, but it looked like they were out of business when I bought. Glad to see them back.
Really looking forward to spending some time in the field with this. Fun stuff!!
