I have a 66 inch drifter recurve. Anybody know what Jim's recommended brace height was?
John
Wes Wallace would know. I have a 66" drifter and I set mine at 7 1/4 - 7 1/2, I bought it new from Jim in 1986, just before he died and I think Wes was still working for him.
thanks Larry. I have mine at 7 1/2" and thought that should be about right.
I like a brace height of about 7 3/4", more or less, for my Drifters, but each one of them is an individual.
Larry -- Jim died July 4, 1991, five years after you bought your bow. I bought two bows from him, one in 1984 and the other in 1987. I now have more than a dozen Bracks, but I only purchased those two before his death, although I was talking to him about a third shortly before his death. Jim was a great guy. I know how the passage of years seems to collapse time, but Jim had half a decade of exciting living after he built that bow for you. I wish he were still with us. He was a good friend.

Thanks Allen. This one was made for Jeff Harrell, who must have been a big man. It's 62@30" (and weighs 51@28). Sweet shooter.
My first custom was a drifter from Jim. He was a very nice guy, a pleasure to talk to and full of advice. He really liked longer bows, I draw 28 and my bow was 66". This was around 82 or 83 I think, I waited 3 or four weeks for the bow and paid something like 159.00 for it. He told me he rushed it for me so I would get it for Christmas. Great Guy.
Hey John, you can always ask Brent Rudolph. He built a lot of bows with Jim back in the day.
thanks David. I tuned it today, and 7 3/4 turned out to be perfect with 2016s. Very sweet, smooth, and quiet. The man knew his stuff!
