Hi.  Ive already have 4 pref. points.  I had a place to hunt in Red Oak on private land and that fell thru.  Is there public land places to Bear hunt.  Who to contact? Or is my best bet an outfitter?  Thanks

There are alot of good public land places to bear hunt in the Red Oak BMU.

There are some big bears too.

I assume you want to bait them, and if this is the case, the areas with few roads are by far the best. I do not know of any outfitters, but there must be some, I have just never looked for one myself.

More then likely 4 points won't get you a tag, I've got 7 going on 8. Lots of bears in the red oak area but it takes scouting. Look for swamps far away from the roads and you'll be on the right track.

There are a LOT of guys with max points trying to get Red Oak.  Go to the DNR website to see the exact #s.  If you want to go bear hunting in Mi in the next 10 years, you better find a spot in the UP.
