Title: Longbow 2 piece takedown type of locks???
Post by: ken denton on February 06, 2009, 09:01:00 PM: I was wondering how many 2 piece longbow takedown type locks are being used?
Also which ones work best and keep the longbow more stable?
This is some of the ones I know about;
Bow bolt
Connexion Hinge
Treadway
Black Widow 45degree
Jack Harrison tube
Bevelock

Post by: Dave2old on February 07, 2009, 07:34:00 PM: I have built several wood take-down bows using the tube hardware, which costs about $35 more or less and is easy to install and I've not had one fail. But as Scattershot says, it limits you to a straight handle. I also have a Shrew take-down that uses the BowBolt, which seems about foolproof and allows just about any handle style, but costs $100 or so if you buy to install yourself, or $150 extra professionally installed in a Shrew and more with some bows. Whatever the cost, for those of us who even occassionally fly with our bows, there's little choice nowadays but to have a take-down.

Post by: LKH on February 07, 2009, 09:24:00 PM: I just got my second of Harrison's new style tube which did away with the stainless/brass insert connection. It is very light and so far I'm enjoying shooting them. Don't even have a nock point on one.

Don't know how to post photos, but if some one wants, I'll send you a photo of the junction.
It takes a lot of work to do.

First he builds and finishes the entire bow and then cuts it in half at an angle. Takes quite a bit of time after the bow itself is built.

He also takes old bows and makes takedowns out of them.

And do you have contact information for whichever one does the tube retrofit? I've been looking for an affordable used sleeve-type longbow but they seem scarce. I'd think about having my Wesley retrofited if not too expensive and good results were guaranteed.

I don't think you are going to find one of Jack's bows for a reasonable price. I figure mine have about doubled in price since I bought the 2 older ones.

Retrofitting isn't cheap. He has to refinish the entire bow when he does. Send me a pm w/email and I'll send you photos of one I got about a month ago.
