Many times you'll find that the writing is under the last coat or two of finish and a little careful work with some 0000 steel wool will take it off.

You can try lightly sanding it out, then reapply some poly to seal it.

Some bow companies sell stickers for exactly this reason.  If you sand the finish off to remove the name then you're gonna need to refinish it.  Some bowyers will do it but then you gotta ship it off and pay for the work.  I have a used longbow and I just left the name on it.  But it's all a matter of personal preference.

I've never had much luck getting inscriptions off at home.  My advice is if it annoys you enough and the bow is worth it, pay a bowyer to do it.

Of course if the bow is signed by Fred Bear or some such Trad legend, leave it be!....  :D

I'd try a little acetone first in case it's on the top, then use fine sandpaper if the acetone doesn't work.

Trying to mate up the finish after will be a little work.  Give DEFT satin wood finish a try.  It's easy to apply (spray can) and drys quick for recoat.

Good Luck with the project.
