I had a couple shoulders from a freshly killed buck, and decided to do a little bit of testing..
IMO, All shots would have resulted in a DEAD deer.

Pretty cool! But a recurve?? Where's the Turkey Creek LB??
How close are ya,, seems like your right on top of the shoulder,, step back 20 yrds ,, and try again,,What the heck you shooting,, I think you could kill an elephant with that bow,,LOL,,
pseman" The Turkey Creek was in the house. Didn't wanna get its feathers ruffled. lol The shoulders are a bit shot up, but still on ice. I might try with the TC's tomorrow, for a different perspective on bow weight. 40#/ 48# / 57#
whitebuffalo: the shots were from 8-15 yards, the arrow tended to end up at odd angles going up, left, and right.
I am shooting a 63# Bear Kodiak Magnum
Yall keep the comments coming!

Loved it. :clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
Wouldn't it be easier to use a grinder to tenderise the meat? :bigsmyl:
Or you could make soup stock if you don't know what to do with the bones...
Does your therapist know you're this angry?
In all seriousness, pretty cool to see. Thanks for posting. (And letting us jibe you).
:notworthy:
I love this place!
Thanks for the kind words yall.
I do not understand why people get poor penetration...Even with a lighter bow. On my last 4 shots, I could run my fingers over the edge and not get cut. And on the last two, the tip was curled over. There aint that much meat between the thin hide and bone to heed penetration. I'm sure theres a different in these shoulders and a live deer...but just how much?
I did NOT expect my Magnus to curl on me, even a small curl. I had put a tanto tip on them, and it still curled. Not severe and obviously didnt affect the penetration. Wonder if this fits under the warranty...? :biglaugh:

How much penetration did you measure on shots 2 and 9?
There was no "exact" measuring, even though it doesnt look like more than 2"-3" of penetration on either shot, both got 6"-7" penetration PAST the shoulder blades, i.e. not counting the inch or two between both blades with fat and meat included.
Hope that answered your question, I could have been more exact with my measurments and documentations, but it was COLD outside.lol

Two words: Poor Tuning
I rarely come across someone with a properly tuned set up (compound or tradbow).
It's a whole lot easier to sneak up on a dead deer too! There's a lot of difference between live and dead deer. :)
What was your total arrow weight? Enjoyed it,very interesting.
The 40# test would be great to see. If that works, anything else should too.
NICE!
:archer:
you have any hog shields to try that on when you get to lighter #age
great video
Guys, the total arrow weight was around 500 grains.
I am uploading a new video, with 40#-57# longbows and 400-600 grain arrows tipped with Magnus I's and II's. The shoulders were a bit shot up, but the 40# performed equally to the 57# rig.
Thanks for all the interest.

imo, most can blow through the actual shoulder. i think most "shoulder" hits that are reported as failures are actually hitting the super thick part of the leg bone, just under the actual blade.
