OK... My 6 year old is bugging me to get ready for the next "tradishunul shoot". She is kindof picky (which does not bode well for the future... anyways) she wants a bow 'like daddy's'. Last year I got her one of those 'lil brave fiberglass bows, however she made me paint it pink. Its about 10 pounds, which is now moving on to her little sister.
The problem is she is really small for her age, and 10-15 pounds is really maxing out for her. I cannot find a fiberglass laminate, traditional looking bow in that poundage range... Any ideas where they are?
PS.... gratuitous proud papa pic's

(this the pre-pink pic... it had to match the outfit)
Go here and look at the Pup.

Saw some really nice looking kids bows at the predator booth at K-Zoo this weekend. Might check his website.
Elk Ridge Archery makes some great kids bows, bought the Pilgrim Squirt for my son when he was 5.
Black Rhino makes a full line of youth bows, and Chuck is very good at matching the right bow to the shooter.
Check out Bob Sarrels website at Sarrels Archery. He is a sponsor on Tradgang. He makes a kids bow that is really neat looking and the maximun draw weight is 20#. He sells them for $175.00. Here's his website sddress:

Good luck,

Martin has a childerns recurve called the Protogy. It is a recurve, and nicely made. I have one my son used when he started shooting with me. His is a 15# draw weight.
I was at the K-zoo show this weekend. Elk Ridge had the best selection of great youth bows I've ever seen. So impressive that I grabbed a biz card because I know I'll be buying some in the future. They literally must of had close to 100 little youth bows there. I'm sure my little girls would love the pink ones.

I am sure other youth bows are nice too, but Mike Mecredy at Maddog makes a great bow at a very reasonable price. I am totally with David Knipes on his recommendation of the Maddog Pup. The kids of some friends of mine had the same plastic bow shown in the pictures at the top of this thread. I bought the kids a Maddog Pup for Christmas. They love it. The plastic bow was immediately banished to the junk heap!

Another vote for Maddog!
I couldn't get the Elk Ridge Archery link to work this morning, but you can see the various Elk Ridge Pilgrim bows at the link below:

They make a great little bow. I bought one each for my two oldest granddaughters 6 years ago when they were 4 years old.

Thanks for the help guys! I guess I was looking in the wrong places, I was in catalogs and websites for the big archery suppliers....
Right around $100 would be the price tag... That Maddog bow sure looks real promising. I actually have to measure her draw length... probably changed since our last 'tradishunul shoot'!
Has anyone tried the Dryad child blank? From the website it says 'osage' only. Does this mean its more of a long bow 'self bow' type... I am looking for something closer to their 'fiberglass bow blank'. I think it would be fun to finish it together.
I will through in another vote for the Black Rinos. Awsome bows at a great price.
Im with Vermonster and Chris on this one, Mike at Maddog makes a great bow, and is a great guy to deal with. Gary
Hey, Gary -- are you not with me too?? I'm feeling left out here.

Beepy, give me a call, we can fix her up. Bob 512 940 3098
Mike at MADDOG IS THE WAY TO GO
I believe Black Rhino is one that will refund the price of the bow if upgrading in the future as you daughter grows.
Might want to check with other vendors to see if they do the same.
Could be worth big bucks down the road.

Sorry Allan, Im with ya man! Some times my fingers are faster than my mind,(ok ok there always faster). Gary :knothead:
I just bought my fiance a bow from Elk Ridge. It's a full size bow but it is lightweight. 28 lbs at 28 inches. I've been shooting it alot to work on my form. It's really a great shooting little bow. That said, Elk Ridge had many bows for children of all ages, and they are priced well.
I think Mikes (mad dog) would be hard to beat...
Ernie
Another one for Maddog!!
Tim Meigs (http://www.manta.com/coms2/dnbcompany_dzq7y5) has been a well known bowyer around these parts for 50 years or more. At an archery meet, I was surprised to find some beautifully made kids bows that he had made. I bought one for my granddaughter. I consider it to be a real piece of history, although I'm sure he wouldn't like to be thought of as history just yet. I don't know if he made just a few and stopped, or if he does it on a regular basis, but you could call and ask.

You are correct. Black Rhino will allow you to "upgrade" one of their bows. Cant remember how much but it is definitely nice for them to do so.
Another vote for Black Rhino.....great bows.....great people to work with....great service . You would be more than satisfied with a Black Rhino
Thanks for the help guys, I got a hold of Mike at Maddog, pretty nice guy. Sent my order in mostly cause I was looking at the woods and PJ wanted the "purple one". Mike said that Purple Heart wood should not be a problem. He also said he is running 14-16 weeks out. I just found out that our first shoot is a month earlier than I thought... hope its not cutting it too close! I will post pics and review it when it shows!
