I wanted to let everyone know a group from Oklahoma and Kansas today formed a new organization named the Oklahoma Selfbow Society. This organization's primary function, as stated in their mission statement, is "to pass on to interested individuals, the knowledge and skills involved in constructing and utilizing Primitive archery equipment". This includes building selfbows, bamboo backed bows, primitive arrows and flint knapping. This group hosts an annual event called OJAM in March (see Trad Events) and also promotes primitive archery by doing demonstrations at the Oklahoma Wildlife EXPO and other venues. This is simply our way of preserving our historical beginnings. If you are interested in supporting this organization send me a PM. Yours in archery - Tommy
Are you refering to the selfbow jamboree held in Perkins, Oka. Mar. 19-22? If so, can you tell me about how many attend this event, and will there be a 3-D course set up this year?
Yes, there will be a 3-D course and a bunch of folks will be there.
We estimated over 300 attended last years event. Expect a similar turnout this year.
If you are in any way interested in learning to build a selfbow or backed bow, OJAM is the place to come. There will be demonstrations on many different primitive archery related topics, as well as lots of bows being built, rocks being made into points, and just lots of all around fun.
Of Course, the weather will cooperate with us and we'll have a fine time. Probably finished 25 bows and started around 70-75 at last years OJAM.
Expect even more this year!!
