Would it be worth skipping practice tomorrow and going to the expo with my dad? What goes on there?
I don't really want to spend a bunch of money, so is there anything else to do?
Tell me about it please...
Zack
Just got home from there. Other than the entrance fee of $10 for the whole weekend you don't have to spend any money. It was $6 for just the night. Do you like to shoot bows? Nice bows of all kinds? For free? That was a lot of fun. I am going back tomorrow. I just wish I had my own arrows for consistency. Some of the loners were not the best.
My elbow won't let me shoot a bow right now. What else is there?
There are some good seminars by G Fred, Man Made of Elk Dave, others. There are lots of bows and supplies to admire, good folks to talk to, trad vibes. I'm there and having a ball.
Put it this way Zach........I WISH that I could be there!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds like fun!
Zack I just got back from there it was great going back tomorrow Man if u can go I would go. A lot of fun and also there where many people are age there ( mostly girls)
I hope i see u there..
Cody
I just got back..saw Cody too...great time..lots of nice bows...the only money i spent tonight besides entry fee was on a book... theres alot of cool stuff to check out.
If your elbow is to sore to shoot, you better skip practice! :readit:
I sure wish I had the time to go!
Don't pass up a chance to waller with SHAUN :jumper:
This is a true EVENT for us trad guys.
I live in Washington, and I am wishing that I could be there.
Brett
I just got back from it and I had a blast...GOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Josh
GO GO and tells all abought it :campfire:
Heck I'm sorry to hear that so many are going and not buying anything. Remember it's the vendors that keep events like this coming. If there are no sales, there are no vendors.
So go and try to help out a little. Wish we were there.
LOL
Mike
Just off the phone with "Rabbitman". Says that its STANDIN ROOM ONLY.. :scared:
The who's, who of the Traditional Archery seems to have taken up a space at KZ :clapper: :clapper:
Pretty lively crowd and their spendin GREEN :goldtooth:
Aw Heck, Rabbitman left without my list for Pig Gig :( Just kidding! Wish I were there...Doc
I helped stimulate the economy. I ordered a SXT longbow from Bill and Tracy of Zipper bows, I'm number one on the Carp Vader list from Jim Belcher, Bought a KME kit after Ron showed me how to use it, got a hat from Whip (boy, was he busy), string supplies from Kustomking. We were there for about 2.5 hours and it was definetly getting busy!
We got back about 1:00 and I'm glad we went early. When we left the place was packed !!! Most people I'v seen in a long time. The only thing I bought was a string for my Widow and some Ace bunny blunts. I only wish I had some extra money right now.
We enjoyed meeting Rabbitman there last night. He's a lot of fun and great to talk with. Spent so much time talking with great folks I almost forgot to empty my wallet... Almost! :D
I feel like the girl sitting at home that didn't get to go to prom!
Man, I would like to be there! Is anybody going to post any pics? :help:
Wingnut I got a stringer, tab, arm guard, and cricket. If people had not snapped up the right hand Kurves, lower weight ghosts and the 60" Shrew SS I really liked I am afraid I would have got a bow after sleeping on it Friday night. But by time I got back there all the bows I liked the best in the weight I want were long gone. That was close. I think they are selling some stuff. I am sure there will be orders. I hope enough to make it worth coming back next year. I had heard from someone that went a couple years ago that the show was not all that great, but I thought it was a nice show.
Well also just got back from the show I only thing I spent money on was a old bow made in the 1950s it was only $30 out the door...
Cody
Smith and I got back this evening. Picked up my new Shrew Classic Hunter. Now it will be a fight between Smith and me who uses it. It made our third father/son set of Shrews.
We spent a lot of time at the MLA kids shoot area. They were busting balloons like crazy. Can't say more about the people when you see so many young ones with bow in hand. There were a lot of really nice kids bows for sale too.
Lots of people and really crowded. Highlight for me was seeing Blackie and Dannie who came from Germany. Hadn't seen them in a few years.
Makes a statement about gripes of being too far to come ;o)
Well I did my part to stimulate the economy. Went down there with the intention(yeah right) of only picking up a couple dozen wood shafts, some fletching and a few other odds and ends.
Wound up with a Shrew Lil' Favorite Recurve from Ron plus the other stuff.
Rick...did you order a lil favorite recurve..or id you come home with one.... those are very nice bows!
Good to see everyone at Kzoo. It was great to meet some folks from here for the first time. Also caught up with many that are old friends. Things got crowded this afternoon and it appeared the vendors...many of who are TradGang sponsors...were having lots of traffic at their booths. A good break from cabin fever due to all the recent really cold weather.
Steve I bought it "off the rack". I took the bow over to the targets, shot 3 arrows told Doug and my son; " Man you guys gotta try this!" They both agreed this was an exceptionally sweet shooting bow. It's marked 50#@30" so I'm getting maybe 46# out of it, but that's what I'm comfortable with now. I'll bring it next Sat.
We went today and I had a blast! Very happy I went, got to meet Fred Asbell and he signed my Instictive Shooting book. Only things I bought were a raffle ticket from Benefit for Kids and One With The Wilderness, which Mike signed. :D
I also met Arwin, and Tim Fishell and I talked for the first time in a while. It was cool seeing all those people that I had heard/read about and seen in movies.
I'm looking forward to next year!
Zack

I really like Kzoo and the chance to see so many like minded folks.
I was there today, had a great time. Picked up a spare Shrew string, a new glove, some odds-N-ends AND a new Northern Mist Baraga.
Steve's bows are SOOOO hard to say no to! The quality and the price...whats a guy to do!
Got to visit with some old friends, thats what I enjoy the most I think.
Eric
Take lots of pics for us in diffeent time zones!
I just got home from day number 2 down there. Great times that is for sure. Glad I got to catch up with Zach (Bakes) and I finally got to meet out very own Whip. Man is he a great guy or what. It was a great time as always. Man I cant wait for Comptons now so I can see everybody again!!
Wow! What a show. I shot long bows non stop for a day and a half. I think I shot all bows known to man. I ordered a custom Navajo Apache from Roy Hall. I think I found the MAGIC bow we are all looking for.
Great Show, 4runner, Roman showed me your bow SWEET!, Vermonster13 I meet Bill at Zipper Bows Great guy. Meet Whip, spoke with Mr. Asbell and attended his seminar. Had the pleasure of watching Rick get all weak knee'd and break down and buy a new Shrew, sure shot sweet. Dropped some money and had a great time. I'll be back next year!!
Had a great time at the expo! I shot lots of great bows but the Zippers really seemed to click for me so I picked this one up.:
Talked with Bill Forman and just may order a Swift. He did not have one there for my specs but what a sweet shooting bow. And the grip...very nice!
Someone please shoot the Zipper SXT, and let me know what you think.
I am about an inch away from ordering one.
Bret
I got home from KZ last night. Had a great time, a lot of meet and great with other tradgangers. Helped out Roy Hall for short time, a great man and some beautiful bows ( I have one). Talked to Tracey and Bill at Zipper bows ,just may be my next bow!!!!! Juat a wonderful time and a good mid-winter break. Thanks to all that made it possible. Mike
Bret, I shot it and ordered one! I kid you not, just dead in the hand, quick, and quiet! The smaller riser and grip area fit me even better then the Standard riser. It seemed a new dimension in shooting Zipper bows. I went there to have a set of longbow limbs made for my standard risers and bought/ ordered the SXT instead. Bill is even grinding laminations from a stave I brought for my bow. On another note, Jim Belcher had his bowfishing bow there. I shot it and am at the top of the list for his final product. He's still looking at changing the riser some to drop the cost. That bow will be on his website in a couple of weeks.
I went yesterday and had a good time also. Picked up two dozen hickory shafts and a dozen ash. I bought Mike Mittens new book and I am up to chapter four, good book. Also bought a wool pullover from Teresa Asbell, wore it home and all afternoon, I really like this. Also picked up a new long sleeve tee from Robin at Traditional Bowhunter Magazine. Checked out the Shrew bows also. Wife's rule was "no more Bows" I have eight already. I need some broadheads and will have to wait until the Compton in June. Whoever has ordered a book from Mike, you are in for some good reading. Mark
I went on Friday. Unfortunately, my time was cut pretty short due to a very cute 3 year old girl at home throwing up all over a very cute, but also sick mommy. LOL
I went with the intention of getting an ASAT Apache Pyramid blind and a BW tab, and I did just that.
I will also be ordering a Grey Wolf Woolens radar hat in wool very soon.
It was nice to finally meet Nic from Steelforce, after having talked to him on the phone several times.
The new double bevel 145gr, 3:1 titanium head he has looks like the bomb. Same with the 190gr 2 blade Phat Head.
I shot and really liked a Hill Country bow. Any body else shoot one?
There were lots of guys shooting bows, it looked like a pretty good crowd. I helped Ron in his booth all day, we fed on pickled buffalo tounge and buffalo sausage. It was a good day!
Gregg Coffey picked up David Peterson from the airport. I didn't have time to sit in on his seminar, but he hung out at the Shrew booth quite a bit.....and picked up his new bow. He seems like a darned good guy.
Roger...where you there on friday? I was hoping to get a chance to meet you.
You guys bring your new toys to the bunny hunt and we'll see you next saturday !
I was there Friday night and picked up Mike's book and the Primal Dreams dvd. Both are excellent! I'm about halfway through the book and the dvd has been playing non stop.
I also met Tim Fishell and picked up a set of wool bibs I bought from him off the Classifieds.
Steve - No, I was just there on Saturday. Ron needed an extra hand in the booth. Speaking of the rabbit hunt, I spoke with Steve Osminski, he and I will both be there.

I shot a reverse handled take-down(similar to Habu ViperKhan) called the "Wildcat". Great shooting bow! It was on my short list for most of the day. :archer:
How is Whip doing there.I bought a RER bow from him and he got it there and I had to work this weekend :banghead:
We were there Saturday ... great show!!
Had a chance to shoot a few Shrews ... I can see one (maybe 2) in my future!!
Had a nice chat with Bob Morrison and Dave Stinson ... great guys.
I'll be back next year even though it's a 6 hour drive.
smiley, I think he sold your bow a couple of times, but had to tell them that particular one was already taken. You called him just in time!
Spent Friday night and Saturday at show. Great event as always. Good to see old friends. Whip was mighty busy with little room for standing in his booth most of the time. Did my part to support the venders and had a great time.
Roger... sounds good..we'll see you guys there!
So who else went home from the expo with a new bow..... I know one of my buds got a new 3 pc RER, and another a 3 pc hill country bow.... I felt like a woman in a shoe store...didnt know what to grab next...lol...
Yup I spent a lot of time at Whip's booth!! It was a great time and I spent most of my money at his booth. Got a new Bailey's fedora hat and a new RER LX. Man is that bow a shooter.
I wanted a chance to talk to Whip as he and I have had some competition during the St. Jude's auction. His picture does not do him justice. He is a big man! I will quietly alter my auction strategy this year :biglaugh:
I had a great time this year. Had a good crowd in my opinion. I walked away with a lefty Pittsley Predator. Been reading alot of good things about them. I guess I didnt win the Shrew at the B4K booth, never got a phone call :)
Thanks everyone, for comeing by to chat and shoot our bows.Tracy and I enjoyed visiting with you all.
Bill
Somebody please post some more pics !
What about the wool dealers ? Was GWW, SI, and KOM there ? Sure would love to make this show one day.
nocams :help:
I went to order my David Miller String follow bow and once I made the final choices on it. I went on to shoot several other bows. The quietest that I heard was the Roman Hershberger reverse handle takedown, I did not shoot it but watched and listened as several guys did. The best 2 bows I shot where a 56inch Shrew with foam cores and a SXT Zipper with foam cores. Both bows dead in the hand, and quick. If I wanted a takedown longbow with the bigger riser like a recurve I would buy a Zipper. The craftsmanship was excellent and Bill was a pleasure to talk to. Had fun all 3 days. and the turnout of vendors and crowds were excellent. Flint

Went friday night...had a blast, wish I knew some of you were coming!
Bill from Zipper was awesome, and I loved the SXT I shot..on my list of next bows!
Got to meet Whip and thank him for the help with ordering a pack...not to mention he talked me into shooting a RER...thank GOODNESS Tim bought it!! As I still get to shoot it, but didn't have to spend the money. Whip forgot to give me his "first" customer present...I'll have to send him my address again. ;)
I got Mike Mitten's book, I think I was the first at the booth..great book! :notworthy:
I made sure Kenny's bow had all sorts of fingerprints and what not on it..always enjoy talking to Roman too, one of the guys that went with us bought one of his bows.
I couldn't get near Denny or Darryl, but I was talked into shooting a 'Widow.
Got to spend some time with friends, and meet some new ones too.
Now the best part...
Sorry not many more pics Vance, I was too busy talking and shooting bows!!!!!
Now how come that dang ole Elkheart didn't get there on time??
I throughly enjoyed seeing some old friends at k/ZOO....along with making some new ones!
Drew,
Dave spent way more hours than planned in Denver, waiting for a maintenance issue to be resolved. He was supposed to get into K'zoo at 9pm Friday, and ended up at Grand Rapids at 10:30pm. I got the honor of picking him up in GR Sat morning.
Gregg
Yes, Grey Wolf Wool was there.
NoCams, yes, I had Gray Wolf in my booth. Sorry you couldn't make it - maybe Compton's?
This was my first attempt at being a vendor at any kind of show and I was overwhelmed by the support. Sure was great to meet in person so many of the guys I consider friends from around here.
Mrs. Whip (Irene) helped in the booth all weekend, and I couldn't have done it without her as well. We both had a really good time and talked all the way home about plans for future events. What a blast!!!
Joe, glad to hear it went well for you overall. Sunday sure was a nice day to drive home!
I was glad to get back to the event after not going since 2003. Good to see it is still going strong.
Nathan
Joe, it was great to meet you in person....even though you took all my money!! :archer:
But Tim, you're going to be blowing the socks off everyone you shoot with and you'll be looking good doing it! Now that, as they say, is priceless! ;) :D
Flint,
That 56" foam core Shrew Classic Hunter is my bow. It is a great shooter -- the best of my 6 Shrews. I'm glad you liked it. I can hardly wait to get it back from Gregg. About the only things that I can think would improve that bow are the addition of carbon backing and a Bow Bolt, both of which I have ordered in my next Classic Hunter. Gregg builds amazing bows.
I wish I could have been at the Expo, but there is always next year I guess. It sounds like it is a big candy store with lots of big kids. We all know the difference between men and boys! ;)
Allan
You are right there Joe. I can't seem to put this bow down. I have been in the basement shooting ever spare minute since I got home with it. Thanks again buddy!!
My only complaint is that it didn't last long enough, and that I missed Friday evening which was, I hear, really great. Picked up my long-awaited second Shrew, a take-down Classic Hunter with snakeskin and tip and riser trim of elk antler from one of my own bulls. Got to meet the amazing Java Man and legendary Ron, and too many other wonderful folks to list, including plenty of TradGangers. Was really surprised to see that Denny Sturgis is a shy fellow! At least in big groups like that. A couple of the most miserably flying days of my life, coming and going, lost luggage, long delays, etc. Yet I'd do it all again and this time come a day early so's not to miss a second. Those Brumms sure put on a good show! With the sad demise of the TBM Expo West we have nothing like this in the West. I've always considered, from what I hear, the Big Three to be K-zoo, Comptons and PBS. Those other two now are on my list. As you meet great new folks that you tend to run into at various events year after year, it gets addicting even to a basic loner like me. A+ in my books. Dave
Dave, Glad to hear you had a good trip. I was bummed I didnt get a chance to meet you in person. Hopefully I will at Comptons if you make it out!!
Dave, can you post some pics of the new Shrew
when you get a chance? I've got one on order
and was thinking getting 'skins on mine. Hope
to see ya at Compton's also.
I had a great time in the Sitka booth, and I certainly appreciate all of the interest in my new book "One with the Wilderness". I got to meet Dave2old again. He is a very fun guy to be around. At these events, he's like a young dog that has been just released from his kennel...he's great around lots of people. Ha! Thanks to everyone for putting on a super expo. Mike
Huckbuck -- Well thanks for the op to brag on my new Shrew with pics. Got some and will post tomorrow. Listening to ZZ Top just now, wife is rocking out and it's distracting! Dave
All that in a 600 sq. ft. cabin, eh, Dave?!?
:goldtooth:
Here are a few detail pics of my new Classic Hunter from Kzoo. Handle riser minus leather wrap to show wood detail ... antler tips and riser trim are from a bull elk I killed a few years ago. Rattler hide. Whoopee!

Dang Dave, that's a little barbaric don't you think? :biglaugh: I love it!
Yes, I confess to a bit of bow barbarism!
Dave,
That Classic Hunter is a real beauty. You will be glad you got the Bow Bolt. I like the elk antler and skins. You have a bow to be really proud of! Hope you enjoy it tremendously. Maybe with that good mojo from your previous elk hunting success, you will be able to get another one with your new bow. Hope so.
Take care,
Allan
Dave, this bow is a real beauty. congratulations.
Love that antler on the handle.
Bill
