Well I'm thinkin of going down to Ohio to extend my turkey season this spring. I see that there is a two bird limit and the tags seem to be state wide. I also seen in the regulations that the longbow is legal to use. So my quuestion is,, Where do I start in the northern part of the state,,Any info is much appreciated and I thankyou,,JB
I'm thinkin of this area..
Maumee State Forest
I've not hunted in the northern part of the state, but the central and southern part is over run with em.
I'll try to do some research and see what I can find out about Maumee.
4runr is right, plenty of turks in the south eastern part of the state. Wayne National Forest. Washington and Monroe county's. PM if you want more info.

The tags are a rip off. $24.00 for a turkey tag plus your license. Your better off going to Wva. where your turkey tags come with the license.
I think I can cover the tag in gas saved in trip distance,,LOL,, I'll look into it though
if you get a chance to come down to columbiana county.I can point you to the turkeys .we have plenty around here.
http://www.wvdnr.gov/Hunting/nonresident.shtm
To me it looks to be around $140 for the non res tag there as well,,$110 for the hunting tag and $30 for the turkey stamp
License/Permit Type License/Permit Cost
Non-Resident Annual License $125.00
Spring Turkey Permit (Resident & Non-Resident) $24.00
Estimated Total
(All costs include a $1.00 writing fee.) $149.00
We are over run with tuekeys here in the southeastern part of the state. Problem is everyone knows that. So if you don't mind settin right on soembody come on down, one more can't hurt.
I'm glad to hear you all have a bird problem,,Hopefully I can come down there and take a couple out,,LOL,,thanks again,,JB
Ashtabula County is very good area as well. It is out east of Cleveland.
From the Ohio DNR Website:
COLUMBUS, OH - Ohio's fall wild turkey season ended November 30 with 1,692, birds killed during the seven-week season. Ashtabula County led the state with 130 birds taken, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife.
Fall turkey hunters enjoyed expanded opportunities this year. They were able to hunt the entire season, from October 11 through November 30, with a shotgun, muzzleloading shotgun, bow or crossbow. This new rule adds 35 days to the previous season for fall turkey gun hunting. Hunters had 46 counties in which to pursue a wild turkey of either sex, which included nine additional northeast Ohio counties.
"We saw a relativity minor change in harvest when compared to the significant changes in opportunities for hunters," said Dave Risley, who oversees wildlife management and research for the division. "We are still well below the acceptable level of harvest for the fall season."
The top 10 counties for fall turkey harvest were: Ashtabula-130, Tuscarawas-112, Harrison-96, Brown-91, Clermont and Coshocton-83, Trumbull-82, Highland-79, and Adams and Washington-67.
I hunt in Meigs, Athens, Galia and Vinton counties and rarely go a day with out seeing or hearing them. I had a flock of 40 longbeards go by my tree stand one morning after they gobbled on the roost for an hour. I would love to hunt them in the spring but can't see driving 12 hours to do so. Chris
Any more info for JB guys on good prospects for hunting turks in the northern part of state.Maybe some Wildlife Management Areas etc.
Shoot him a PM if you wanna keep a spot close to your vest so to speak.
Jasons a great guy and was very generous in helping me out finding a spot in MI when I moved here.I appreciated that!
My job has me on the road almost daily in Tuscarawas, Carroll and Harrison counties. Any of the 3 would be a good place to start. There is some public hunting but most is private. Another good place to spring hunt is Salt Fork state park in Guernsey county. Probably best during the week not as many hunters.
Thanks for the bump Eric,, I will never forget that first day of turkey hunting with you, What a blast that was,, thanks for the info guys,,
this is what I've done so far
Applied for the Illinois turkey permitm northern part of the state.I'll be there 4/11 to 4/17 Ohio is over the counter so I'm no to woried about the permit but plan to be there from 5/11 to 5/17. by myself to hunt them birds and I might travel a bit more south as I see there are some huge tracts of the Wayne national forest,,thanks again,,JB
Good luck on your trip!! Maybe in a year or two I'll have to join ya. Our season seems too short!!!
Salt Fork state park or Ohio Power land in S. East part of the state. Tons of "Thunder Chickens" to hunt!! :archer:

If you are planning to hunt the AEP land in Southest part of Ohio be sure to look for no hunting signs. AEP and ODNR closed a bunch of land around the Cumberland area the last two years. There's still plenty to hunt, yo just need to watch where your at.
Hi Raven, good to see your still around.
Howdy! :scared: :bigsmyl:
Hope all is well with you and your familey! If your free the weekend of G.O.R.H. you should try and get some guys to come up for a day or two!! :archer:
Take care!
