Title: Roadkill; The Phoenix Bow
Post by: vermonster13 on January 30, 2009, 11:52:00 AM
As some of you know GrnMtnTradNut had a mishap with a Zipper in Ohio last year. He ran over the bow he had got his first 3 trad deer with upon arrival to the camp.

The risers Earthly remains were sent to Bill Dunn of Zipper for some inspection to see if anything could be done. I spoke with him on the phone a few times and sent him a set of limbs. The artist did some magic and sent me Roadkill back and it arrived today. Chris just happened to be here when the mail-lady arrived.

Bill is a magician. So what do you all think?

He turned it into an SXT riser. Very quiet and quick for a 46@28 bow.

Wow that turned out nice!Looks like you shoot it very well Chris.

A friend backed up over my longbow once at camp. Not complety I screamed bloody mmurder as he was rolling over part of it.The string nearly came off and the top limb looked twisted bad.Unstung it and restung it and all was good.

congrats on the bow!I bet your tickled pink.Thats great service to from your bowyer and friend.

Steelhead, who said he gets it back? I let him have first shot with it, never said he could have it again. Didn't you read about how Zipper Bows come with restraining orders against him now? Heck, he's probably going to get fined for today.    :saywhat:

I sense a violation of the restraining order is emminent.Keep an eye on him Dave.He will be sneaking around the crib at night.

Go heavy on the fine

We dont want a repeat offender LOL.

I was suprised he even let me look at it never mind touch it, or shoot it. But I did help him chase the mail lady down. It looks great and shoots like it always did-sweet!! Great work Bill, I love the colors of the riser with the stain. No violation here, I know were it is and I can have supervised visits, I going over tomrrow to shoot it some more. Yes I almost cried like a little kid when the Tundra rolled over my baby. Chris

Chris would be a good test candidate for an aluminum riser Zipper. May even let him shoot one if Bill gets the prototype hammered out so it can be tested.

HA Ha Dave, just remember who's gonna help you set those ladder stands. No a great idea, I give them the worst torture test ever seen, if it survives me nobody can break it. I think Bill should send me a few bows every month or so for testing.  :bigsmyl:

The restraining order has been lifted by Bill, and Dave. Roadkill is back home were she belongs, at my house with me shooting it. Iwent to Daves to shoot again today, when he handed the bow to me and told me it was mine again I was speechless! A million thanks to Dave for getting this all taken care of and to Bill Dunn at Zipper for fixing what I thought was gone forever, in my eyes this bow could never be replaced. I think it looks better now than it did before it was run over. Chris

He looks a little worried don't he? lol He didn't think he was getting her back when the pics were took yesterday. I let him twirl in the wind for the night.    :biglaugh:

It wasn't nice of me, but it made it a bigger surprise today when I told him Roadkill was now his again.

Hey guys, unfortunately I did not take any pictures. The wood was cracked and compressed very bad in some places!! In a few spots it looked as though there were dime and quarter sized rocks pressed into the wood.Luckily narrowing the limb pockets to SXT dimentions took nearly all the compressed wood away. Some of the worse damage was to the opposite side of the grip, which was an easy fix.All I realy did was dish that out enogh to get rid of it and blend the work into the rest of the riser. We were lucky, even with all the damage it was in places that could be repaired without being easily noticed when finished.I did have a few choice words when I first pulled it out of the box. They were not Magic words.Road kill was the propper name for this bow.I think timex also fits, because it sure took a lickin.
Bill

Hey Bill thanks so much it looks great, I bet you used some of the words I started with the day it happened. I also thank you and Tracey for the call I got while there with the offer to you a bow. I plan on doing alot more freezer fillin this year with that bow. Chris
